🟢 @studiogroundfloor have designed Hackney’s new heritage plaques 🟢 We’re super-duper excited to share what we’ve been working on for the past year or so. Working with @hackney_society , Studio Ground Floor have designed the new green heritage plaques popping up around Hackney 📍 to celebrate the influential, until-now-unsung heroes that so greatly influenced the borough, the city of London and Britain as a whole 🤝 The ceramic plaques are handmade by 👐 Ned Heywood and Julia Land 👐 (pictured on installation day) who also make the blue plaques for English Heritage. Working with the two, we found a remarkable green glaze that uniquely patinas plaque-to-plaque, whilst feeling like an unmistakably ‘Hackney’ green 🟢 The first plaque was erected in honour of Edith Watson. Edith was the first female police officer and a suffragette, born to a single mother at the former Hackney Workhouse site on Homerton High Street, where we have installed her plaque. As part of @riocinema ’s 🎬 Rio Forever 🎬 programme, Hackney Society’s second plaque was unveiled to celebrate Clara Ludski, the pioneering woman behind the renowned, Grade II listed, Art Deco cinema in Dalston 🎥 There is plenty more to share about Hackney’s new green plaques – including an incredible bespoke typeface kindly designed and donated by @abcdinamo that we commissioned based on the borough’s old community notice boards – which we’ll post about soon 🟢 In the meantime, thank you to everyone involved: @hackney_society @gordonshrigley @jachapman8226 @abcdinamo @riocinema Keep your eyes peeled as more plaques pop up around Hackney ❣️ Designed by @alicesherwin_ and @harold__bennett of Studio Ground Floor.

‘Adagio’ is the title of photographer @lauraghez new book and their respective body of work. In its simplest terms, it means to go slow, with no rush 🌱 Working with Laura, we mirrored this feeling through the editorial design, with interstitial statements setting the pace of the book, and in the materiality of the cover, with its subtle twinkling serene sheen ✨ Thank you @lauraghez for the brilliant, fun and thoughtful conversations along the way 🌻  Cover printed on Gmund Action Alpine Sparkling Water. 🚨 TYPEONE Issue Ten 🚨 Quite a labour of love, this latest issue not only marks five years of us designing, writing for, and art directing TYPEONE but also sees us as its editors! 👩‍💻👨‍💻 🔤 For this issue, we delved into type design of the 21st (and ¼) century. We’ve been super lucky to commission and work with lots of incredible writers and thinkers ➡️ including @abcdinamo @sdfggvfvj @vocaltype.co @thaxterpoppy @sharp_type @elizabeth_goodspeed @velvetyne_type_foundry @ellistree @dalia.aldu @studiomichelazoppi and more ⬅️ to ask what the type design scene of today looks like and, with that in mind, what lies ahead. 🎀 Crucially, it also asks us to reflect on where we’ve come from in order to better understand the eclectic, exciting and unexpected landscape of contemporary type. 📚 The magazine’s design literally reflects this range of discipline, character and approach, with each article using the respective typeface of its featured creative. 🎨 (the cover is the contents, so if you zoom you’ll get to see everyone in it!) 🐛 We’d like to thank everyone who’s made this happen – here’s to five more years! ❤️ 👀 Design and Art Direction: @alicesherwin_ and @harold__bennett Editors: @studiogroundfloor Photography: @dieschuetze_ 🔥

When someone says “print is dead,” @stackmagazines founder Steve Watson has a few things to show them. Last year, he wrote an essay called The Real Death of Print – a thoughtful look at how smaller, more experimental projects are reshaping publishing. As soon as we read it, we knew it should be a newspaper. We partnered with Stack to print 500 digital minis, designed by Alice and Harry at @studiogroundfloor with an RGB colour palette in a nod to the essay’s digital origins. Free copies went to independent shops and creative venues around the UK this spring. Most are gone now (sorry!) but you can still read the essay online. We’re super chuffed to have worked with @stackmagazines and @newspaperclub on The Real Death of Print 💀. TYPEONE #9 🐥🌼 explores food and drink packaging through the lens of typography 💬, ecology 🌎 and responsibility 🛟— a nuisanced, thoughtful angle only made possible by our Guest Editors; the one and only @olssonbarbieri 💛 Thank you so much Erika, Tya and Henrik for trusting us and bringing so much of your philosophy through. You turned this issue into something so much greater than the sum of its parts.🌝 @type01_ 🍋 @olssonbarbieri also brought their packaging knowledge to the cover, making issue 9 a real production treat, with a tear-off diecut that turns the magazine into a piece of packaging for you to open 🌟 🧀 Thank you to the magnificent @matdesjardins and @pangram.pangram / @off____type for providing Neue Montreal Squeezed — a real gem of a typeface 🌻 🌽 It’s been an absolute pleasure to work with so many amazing collaborators to make this issue the best it possibly could be 🚜 This includes Living Ink Tecnologies Offset Algae InkTM @livinginktech (a renewable and carbon-Negative algae ink), @gfsmithpapers for providing GF Accent recycled paper and GF Moon and @pressisionltd for continuing to put up with us and do the best job ever 🐠 Design and Art Direction: @studiogroundfloor 📒 It goes without saying, but thank you Amber for everything you do! 💐

Pilot #5 🪰 Exploring this issue’s theme, Underbelly, we opted for a softer approach to the magazine’s design and construction🍦With deckled edges (that feel super soft), the rough, vertically-bound book block form has to be peeled apart before being welcomed to the inside🌀There, everything runs down the belly of the book, with a little flipbook animation to keep you company. 🐺 @pilotmagazined As always, an absolute dream working with @dktepp , who not only tolerates our odd ideas but encourages them 👼 Thank you to @abcdinamo and @fabianharb for P3rm3n3nt and Select and for being such fantastic and fun collaborators 🍄 Get your hands on a copy asap before they go! 🤲 📚 Design and art direction by Studio Ground Floor ( @alicesherwin_ and @harold__bennett ) 📖
