Judo has been part of my life since I was young. I first stepped onto the tatami at the age of six, and after many years, and a few detours, I came to realise it is a discipline that has shaped me deeply. In 2023, Dobra was invited by Pedro Carvalho and Clube de Judo do Porto to design and develop the new identity for Clube de Judo do Porto. The challenge was to adapt the existing identity to the club’s growing reality, its multiple disciplines, Judo, Jiu-Jitsu and, at the time, the possibility of having Yoga. We designed a identity system built around movement, inspired by judo throwing techniques such as uchi-mata and seoi-nage, where balance, projection and flow are essential. The lettering itself becomes an expression of motion, translating the physical language of the sport into a visual one. The identity unfolds across three categories, the club as a whole, Judo and Jiu-Jitsu, and extends from competitions and Judo Kids tournaments, to a complete Mizuno equipment line for the athletes. Founded in 1965, Clube de Judo do Porto remains deeply rooted in the values of Jigoro Kano, respect, discipline and continuous growth. “Merda e Ouro” (literally “Shit and Gold”) is a celebratory object as much as it is a record. Designed and released in 2024 to mark 20 years of @lindamartini , this double LP documents two sold-out live shows in Lisbon (LAV) and Porto (Hard Club), part of the 20 Anos: Merda e Ouro tour, nights of communion and celebration between the band and a fiercely devoted audience. The edition also includes a CD of rare tracks and a poster drawn from the same visual universe. Working from an extensive photographic archive by @anaviotti_ taken during those nights, we developed a collage made of photocopied crowd images, an attempt to hold everyone who has been there throughout these 20 years. When the gatefold opens, a single image stretches across both panels, suggesting a collective embrace and a shared gesture of gratitude between band and audience. The cover resists hierarchy. The people come first. The band name and title appear only in gloss varnish, while gold rectangles cover every pair of eyes, reinforcing the raw photocopy aesthetic and the idea that a band with 20 years no longer needs its name to be read to be recognised. Identity for @portopostdoc 2024 edition, developed around the theme “Europe Doesn’t Exist, I’ve Been There”, offers a critical and poetic take on the idea of Europe, its constructed identity, contradictions, and shifting borders. The title draws inspiration from Michel-Rolph Trouillot’s phrase “The West doesn’t exist. I know, I’ve been there”, reimagined here to reflect the European context. This year marked the first chapter of the festival’s new three-year program, “The Movement of Peoples”, a cycle dedicated to humanist perspectives on migration, displacement, and belonging. Our work accompanied this mission across a wide range of materials: street posters, large-scale banners, a catalogue, a newspaper, postcards, socks, and more. The identity was conceived to mirror the festival’s urgent questions about Europe’s present and future, engaging with its multicultural tensions, post-colonial legacies, and social fragmentation. Our goal was to amplify the festival’s commitment to documentary as a space of resistance, dialogue, and reflection on what binds or divides us. . Here's another fun one, the "G", designed by @studiodobra (@ojoaoguedes and @zeluisousadias ): "The design of the letter G began as a kind of game. An attempt to fill the grid, using the board as a framework, and to create depth and contrast with the three available colours. The result is a strange, arcade-like letter." — Dobra is a graphic design studio based in Porto, Portugal, working with cultural institutions, book and record publishers, theatre companies, music promoters, and bands. The studio focuses on visual identity, editorial design, posters, and typographic experimentation. It also develops signage systems, extending its approach to spatial and experiential design. Dobra explores the communicative potential of graphic design, tailoring each project to its specific context and audience. The studio values close collaboration with clients and partners, fostering creative relationships grounded in cultural awareness and long-term engagement.

José Afonso: Live at the Coliseu – Triple Vinyl, Double Digipack & the single “O Que Faz Falta”. In a previous post, we shared how meaningful this project is to us and the importance of bringing this edition to life. On 29 January 1983, Zeca Afonso performed at Coliseu dos Recreios in one of his final concerts, just months before his last show in Porto. His legacy has endured far beyond his passing in 1987. This iconic night was captured in both audio and film, becoming an essential document of his work. We had the honour of redesigning this new edition—now in a meticulously remastered triple vinyl—restoring the richness of multiple audio sources. One of the family goals was to highlight the many musicians and friends who joined Zeca on stage that night. Previously unseen colour images from Luís Filipe Rocha’s footage helped bring this vision to life, selected at the Anim/Cinemateca, now featured in this edition. Another key element was the original concert manual, which included the setlist, lyrics, and personal messages of support written for Zeca. These are now featured in the vinyl inlays and back cover. “Virei,” a road documentary by @gustavoimigrante , explores Angola’s rich tapestry of stories, people, and landscapes, centred around the region of Virei. The documentary delves into the connections between Angola and Portugal, seen through the experiences of two renowned Portuguese surfers, @tiagosacapires and @joana_schenker , and local surfer Samuel Quintino. It reflects on themes such as development, sustainability, and the dynamics of power that influence the surf industry and tourism in the age of globalisation. To create the film’s posters, a series of collages were developed using photographs taken by Gustavo during filming. Nearly every image shared by the director seemed to tell its own story, each capable of inspiring a different poster. This process resulted in a main poster and four secondary designs, all showcasing the duality of the landscape with a bold division between earth and sky, symbolising the spirit of the film. Additionally, we developed all title cards for the film’s transitions.
