Our home is in the March issue of Architectural Digest!! We are so excited to share our home with the world! It has been a labor of love and our laboratory of experimentation. Layered rugs, a low upholstered sofa inspired by Persian tea rooms, and pieces from our own inaugural furniture collection fill every space. As @mayer.rus put so perfectly “an ensemble that speaks directly to the couple’s vision of modernity married to historical, culturally relevant archetypes.” A huge thank you to @archdigest @mayer.rus @amyastley @alevasseur1 . Mayer, you captured our essence and vision so perfectly with your words, we are so grateful. Thank you to the incredibly talented @william.jess.laird and @austindwhittle . And a very special thank you to our friend @theculturecreative ❤️

There are certain projects that are very special and some that you keep very close to your heart. This is one of those projects. This is one of the earliest homes that we designed and today we are honored to share that it is featured in this month’s issue of @elledecor ! We embarked on this journey to revive a neglected 1950’s ranch home that sat in the middle of a monumental site filled with archaic Redwood trees. A true, warm mountain home. Our clients, our brother and sister in law were our true collaborators and we all went on this journey together to create a sanctuary in the trees. The house was gutted and brought down to it’s studs. We built a whole new floor of bedrooms, baths and a family room beneath the main structure. We vaulted the ceilings and built a sculptural burrowing staircase. We are so proud of this magical destination that truly feels like home. 🩶 Huge thank you to @as4d @bebehoworth for championing us and the lovely @cokhio for the writing✨ #studiomuka To the best team: Photograph by @william.jess.laird Styling by @austindwhittle Featured in @elledecor Special thanks to @theculturecreative 🙏🏼 @raphiedu @rufregistry #studiomuka #architecture #interiordesign #californiaarchitect #losangelesarchitect #bayareadesign #californiaarchitecture #losangelesarchitecture #sanfranciscointeriordesign #archilovers #residentialarchitecture #sanfrancisco #highendinteriors #collectibledesign #luxuryhome #luxuryrealestate #losangelesinteriordesigner #bayareaarchitecture #losgatos #northwest

Meet Zabie Mustafa and Neda Kakhsaz, the founders and principles of the AD100-awarded @studio.muka .   “We’re drawn to creating a sense of calm, belonging, and austere confidence. Spaces that feel grounding rather than overwhelming, where people can arrive, exhale, and feel held by their surroundings.”   In their Woodland Hills residence, objects are chosen for their tactility and material presence, weaving history and emotion into conversation with a modern point of view.

Los Angeles-based @studio.muka approaches design as a transformative sensory experience.   Throughout the AD100-awarded firm’s Los Angeles residence, this philosophy comes to life through objects chosen for their tactility and material presence, weaving history and emotion into conversation with a modern point of view—seen in pieces such as the @flos 2097 Chandelier and the Lampampe Table Lamp by @ingomaurer_official .

🧡 Drapery lined primary bedroom with bespoke bedding using a patterned Makoto Kagoshima textile. Custom Doug Fir bed and nightstands are finished with leather. A framed photograph by Hiroshi Sugimoto of an empty theater hangs over the bed. The closet of full plywood recalls early Schindler and early Gehry - material as restraint and expression. The kitchen 🍳 The clients’ ambition was clear: to create a home that could host an ever-evolving community of creative individuals. Our design approach drew on early concept stores by Belgian fashion house Dries Van Noten, where shoppers felt as though they were stepping into an intimate residence rather than a retail space, as well as case studies from Frank Gehry and Rudolph Schindler, whose work demonstrates the power of high design realized through accessible, everyday materials. In this way, the project became a study in the tension between public and private domains in Los Angeles, exploring how a house can function simultaneously as personal sanctuary and cultural salon. Our latest project out now in @archdigest ! In a neighborhood rooted in Los Angeles’ postwar bungalow experiments, this home reimagines modest domestic architecture as a cinematic stage for identity and gathering. One of the project’s defining interventions, the installation of operable garage doors in the main living spaces, dissolves boundaries entirely. Here, the quintessential LA lifestyle comes alive, with gatherings spilling seamlessly from interior to exterior, blurring the line between home and horizon. 🌞 Thank you to the most inspiring and trusting clients. Every moment working on this was pure joy. And to our incredible team, nothing would be possible without the synergy and collaboration each day in the studio, in the shop and on site. ❤️ Build by @seeddesignbuildla Landscape design by @moramistudio Photographed by @william.jess.laird Styled by @austindwhittle Beautifully written by @morganhannahg Special thank you @mayer.rus Link to the article in our bio ⛓️
