FBB Wohnungsbau Freiburgstrasse Bern
offener Wettbewerb, 3. Rang

SUP Soup Pavilion
Concept design
Anywhere
SOUP is a charity.
SOUP is a pavilion for hungry delivery riders. Algorithmically created recipes are prepared daily by volunteers and served at cost.
SOUP is based on FOOD. In 1971, Gordon Matta-Clark along with artists Carol Goodden and Tina Girouard, co-founded the restaurant FOOD, in SoHo, New York. FOOD wasn’t just a restaurant; it was a performance space where artists created and cooked meals. For Matta-Clark, soup was a versatile medium that could be used to create a communal experience and to challenge traditional notions of art and performance.
SOUP is open 24/7 but has yet to be commissioned.

CAZ Capet Neo Bistro Zurich
In the 60sqm bistro, the kitchen and the bar form an integral part of the atmosphere and are interwoven with the guest area. Materials with different levels of gloss and reflection were used to enhance the sense of space in the dense environment. The wall surfaces are painted in a muddy green – a hue common in the late 19th-century – and are complemented with a heavily textured muted rose ceiling. This acoustic ceiling, made with recycled cellulose fibres, is applied over the existing decoration, leaving visible traces of the space’s history.

CAZ Capet Neo Bistro Zurich
Capet is a neo bistro is located in a 19th-century bourgeois corner building in Zurich.
Inspired by traditional Swiss taverns and their “Stammtisch” — a prominently placed table shared by locals — a 6-metre-long, counter-height table sits at the heart of the Capet. It serves as a communal table for both guests and bar staff. Made from hand-selected, full oak boards sourced from Swiss forests, the tabletop and legs feature inlays of solid surface material in areas subject to increased wear and tear. Whilst the table takes centre stage, a menu card shelf casually leans against the wall.

ERF E. Residence Floyd VA
Siding in rough sawn 1” x 6 1/2” hemlock boards.
It takes its reference from the clapboards common in the vernacular architecture of Floyd County. The staggered vertical hanging gives it a textile-like appearance.
The hemlock was locally sourced and stained on site.

The unique location of the town of Kloten - in the immediate vicinity of Switzerland’s largest city and the airport as a gateway to the world - has had a direct influence on its townscape. Since the post-war period, economic success and the resulting building boom have created a heterogeneous ensemble of village, agglomeration, city and metropolis.
The photographs by Peter Fischli and David Weiss sought poetry in the everyday reality of such settlements and urban centres around Zurich. The photograph of the Wilden Mann with a view of Schaffhauserstrasse gave our team the impetus to search for a silhouette for the buildings. In contrast to the city, no clear eaves height is proposed, but rather a conglomerate of architectures of different heights and depths is designed, which gives the buildings a physicality in the urban space and at the same time creates defined spaces in between.

Floating and suspended borosilicate laboratory vessels (various shapes), illuminated by LEDs reminiscent of phosphorescent flora and fauna, reference the historical purpose of the reservoir while providing both practical and atmospheric lighting.
A floating platform made from chemical barrels further references the history of the building while opening up new vistas within the basin. Waves created by the movement of the jetty provide a kinetic link to the floating illuminated glass elements held in the basin.
A heliostat, a computer-controlled autonomous sun mirror, continuously reflects light from the roof level down into the lightwell. The sun’s rays are directed to the floor at the entrance to Basin 1 by a series of reflective surfaces within the well, hitting the flooded floor and creating a shimmering reflection of light throughout the basin.
The “Weather System” – an autonomous sensing feedback system: A single board computer (Raspberry Pi) will collect data from a uRadmonitor (open citizen science air quality monitor) and a multi-parameter water quality monitor. Common pollutant variables such as carbon dioxide, PM2.5, radiation, sulphur, etc. will be expressed by the autonomous system as lighting changes in the space (LED lights housed in borosilicate labware), the movement of the heliostat sun reflector, and the sounding of a series of bells throughout the wider building.
The presence of people in the space will affect carbon dioxide and dust levels, as will changes in the rhythm of the city (e.g. rush hour), resulting in a direct feedback loop of daily macro-seasonal changes.

The slender, tall glass building is situated between the main road and an artificially created bog landscape inspired by high moorland ecosystems.
A variety of climbing plants, specific to each aspect, provide shade and give character to the enfilade of office and research spaces.
