Introducing @cloudyku.her - our next feature in the Beatport Ambassador Spotlight! Currently wrapping up her Europe & UK tour, Cloudy takes us for a walk through Berlin to share her roots between Taipei and Melbourne, and how these worlds shape her sound. Taiwan-born, Melbourne-based DJ, producer, sound designer and founder of @hermusicequality 他 & @speed_bpm 速度, Cloudy also releases under her alias Suzhen Bai via Danish label @amniote.editions . Her recent release, Separate on LAN Records is a blend of dreamy vocals and hard hitting synths with classic drum machine rhythms, all infused with an unexpected freshness that breathes new life into the genre. Vessa has also explored the intersection of sound and visual art through her audio-visual collaboration with Rubyanna Edwards for various art showcases including debut collaborative work Baseline Narrative 2024. Vessa’s cross-genre sound consistently pushes against the conventional, inviting listeners into a textured audio landscape where the analog meets the avant-garde. Her ability to tailor sets to events whilst retaining a distinct sonic palette has made her a key figure in Naarm’s live hardware scene, continuously redefining what club music can be and inspiring a new generation of gender and culturally diverse hardware enthusiasts.

UK-born, Melbourne-based Hedchef creates the kind of sharp, off-kilter club constructions that disorientate and delight the dancefloor in equal measure. Showing discipline to a militant ethos of pushing the envelope, futurism and point-blank rejection of nostalgia, irony and pastiche, Hedchef’s groove-based, breakdown-light arrangements align closer to classic techno and electro than dubstep or garage, whilst his razor-sharp sound design draws from influences closer to drum ‘n’ bass and the UK bass-driven music spectrum to add imaginative, gritty edges to the rolling flow. Hedchef’s prolific back catalogue and wide-ranging DJ sets certainly tend to feature dark, heavy and abrasive sounds - but his approach to writing grooves, similarly to if they were guitar riffs or brass sections, brings an almost pop-adjacent catchiness that belies the leftfield, experimental nature of his rhythmic structures and warped sound palettes. It’s this intricate musicianship which has seen Hedchef release on acclaimed labels including Scuffed Recordings in London, New York-based Worst Behaviour and Berlin’s International Chrome, with a stacked schedule of upcoming releases that continue the mission of expanding the boundaries of functional club tools. Most recently, his collaborations with cross-genre wizard Doctor Jeep have been a staple in the international club circuit.

Frank Bretschneider | SPEED 速度 | 084 Link in Bio SPEED is back with another round of the Artist Invitation Mix series, featuring an incredible artist. We‘re excited to present a mix from Frank Bretschneider representing Berlin for this edition of the series. Frank Bretschneider is a musician, composer and video artist in Berlin. His work is known for precise sound placement, complex, interwoven rhythm structures and its minimal, flowing approach. Bretschneider’s subtle and detailed music is echoed by his visuals: perfect translated realizations of the qualities found in music within visual phenomena. Bretschneider was raised in Karl-Marx-Stadt (Chemnitz since 1990), where his aesthetic developed as he listened to pirate radio and smuggled Beastie Boys tapes in the former East Germany. After studying fine arts and inspired by science fiction radio plays and films he began experimenting with tape machines, synthesizers, and modified guitars in 1984, as well as exploring the possibilities of exchange between visual art and music by various means such as film, video and computer graphics. In 1986, after establishing his cassette label klangFarBe, Bretschneider founded AG Geige, a successful and influential East German underground band. In 1995, Bretschneider and fellow AG Geige member Olaf Bender founded the Rastermusic record label which eventually merged with Carsten Nicolai’s noton to form raster-noton (now raster media) in 1999. Since then Bretschneider has released more than 30 albums on various labels including Mille Plateaux, Faitiche, 12k and Line, and is performing at music/media festivals worldwide. Tracklist
