We’re excited to celebrate Blue Oak Landing receiving a 2026 Merit Award in Residential Design from ASLA- NCC. SPEC Play is proud to have collaborated with Fletcher Studio and David Baker Architects on this immersive, exploratory play space. 🌿 Located just north of downtown Vallejo, the housing provides 75 supportive affordable homes for families, and individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Together, the team created a playful biophilic environment that connects residents with nature through accessible pathways, native planting, gathering spaces, gardens, and a forest-inspired play environment overlooking Austin Creek. The play space features durable Black Locust timber elements from our partners at WholeTrees, that encourage imaginative, intergenerational play. Mitchell Park Place in Palo Alto brings together affordable housing, supportive services, and community-centered design, all just steps from Mitchell Park. Designed by Architects FORA, Base Landscape Architecture and managed by Eden Housing, the development includes dedicated housing for the IDD community alongside vital public social services. A unique addition to the Downtown Dallas park network, Harwood Park unites and transforms two city blocks into a community resource where natural systems, architectural history, and urban life converge. A variety of exterior spaces promote relaxation and recreation, while repurposed historic buildings provide the potential for activation with event, retail, and office spaces. The ecologically sensitive design integrates salvaged materials, maximizes pervious and planted areas, and showcases historic Trinity River vegetation through a central bioswale, allowing visitors to connect with history, nature, and their community all within sight of the stunning downtown skyline. - Texas ASLA We’re proud that our collaborative efforts with Ten Eyck Landscape Architects and Lappset Group helped bring the Mammoth playgrounds to this wonderfully reimagined space.
