What made AURA wasn’t just the space we created…it was their presence. Distinct, intentional and unforgettable. #enobassediamonds

@gidajournal & @thisisusng : How do you approach the process of conceptualizing and executing your ideas? Can you share any insights into your creative process? @blueeyeobservatory : These days my ideas are often based on personal breakthroughs. I often land on a strong feeling or a thought brought about by a series of reflections or journal sessions that I feel called to document and share. I share for the people who may connect with it and also to help me further integrate the breakthroughs into my being. My ideas also come from things I want to learn more about. For example, Ouida was sparked by my fascination with water and wanting to see what I could learn about it from people who spent most of their lives by it. My process for executing at the moment is quite intuitive. I try to bring on people I feel would genuinely connect with the story and add something to it by their presence, and I encourage interesting conversations around the subject matter whilst working on it. It’s really all an opportunity to learn.

Investec Cape Town Art Fair 2026. Thank you to everyone who visited our booth, engaged with the works, and supported our artists. Through To Be Held, To Be Seen, we presented the practices of Yanma Fofana (French/Ivorian), Roisin Jones (British/Jamaican), and Afeez Onakoya (Nigerian) — three distinct voices from across the diaspora, shown together in Cape Town. As The 1897 continues to expand its presence on the African continent, this presentation reflects our core mission: to connect Africa, its diaspora, and the world through thoughtful, curated presentations. We’re grateful for our growing community of collectors and partners across cities and continents. #The1897 #ICTAF2026 #ToBeHeldToBeSeen #ContemporaryAfricanArt

Today, we arrive at the final chapter and what a journey it has been | Investec Cape Town Art Fair - Booth A3. Over these past days, we stepped together into a shared current; a conceptual and visual immersion into the forces that shape contemporary existence: movement, upheaval, memory, transformation, and the circulation of influence. Within this space, encounters with art became moments of quiet recognition. Rooted in the rhythms of Africa and shaped by the spirit of Cape Town, the exhibition came alive through your presence. Bringing together the practices of Abe Odedina, Isaac Emokpae, and Simon Ojeaga, Into the Vortex unfolds as a layered dialogue between myth, perception, and structure, three distinct approaches to navigating and articulating storytelling. None of this existed in isolation; it was formed by those who entered, paused, and allowed themselves to be drawn Into The Vortex. We’re open from 12:00 - 7:00 PM today! As we step out of this shared moment, the dialogue remains open and we welcome continued conversations and enquiries beyond the fair. O’Thank You! @investeccapetownartfair Booth: A3 Location: Cape Town International Convention Center (CTICC). Date: 20-22nd February 2026 #odaart #investeccapetownartfair #contemporaryart #artfair #ICTAF2026

3 days to go ❗️ ‘To Be Held, To Be Seen’ opens at Investec Cape Town Art Fair 2026 this week, marking The 1897 Gallery’s inaugural presentation at the fair. Bringing together works by Afeez Onakoya, Roisin Jones, and Yanma Fofana, the presentation unfolds through gesture, movement, memory, and care. Across drawing, relief sculpture, and painting, intimacy is positioned not as sentiment, but as practice. We look forward to welcoming you in Cape Town. 📍 Lookout Section, Booth L7 🗓 20–22 February 2026 📌 Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), Cape Town #The1897Gallery #InvestecCapeTownArtFair #ICTAF2026 #ContemporaryArt
