SOMETHING ABOUT THE TIDE is a feature-length coming-of-age dramedy for those of us over 30 (or…40) about a misanthropic addict in recovery who finds out her dying mother gave up a previous baby for adoption and she must prove her self-worth (in all the wrong ways) to fulfill her mother’s final wish—bring home the seemingly perfect other child before it’s too late.

This past weekend, The Bridge: From Oregon to Industry brought together 12 filmmakers from across the state — from Portland and Eugene to Ashland and Bandon — for 72 hours of connection, collaboration, and conversations about the future of film.
Participants connected with Oscar and Emmy Award-winning filmmakers, working professionals, and fellow creators in conversations about storytelling, career building, and building lasting industry relationships.
A bridge is “a structure that creates a path across an obstacle,” and that was the heart of this program: creating space for Oregon filmmakers to make the journey into the industry feel just a little more possible.

Something About the Tide is a coming-of-middle-age dramedy about learning to accept that the life we have built for ourselves is good enough. Juggling three jobs, a son, and a dying mother, Jen, a 30-something addict in recovery, finds her calibrated life thrown into chaos when she learns her mom gave up a previous baby for adoption and wants to be reunited with this annoyingly perfect other child before she dies.
Pipeline readers called the script “a deeply honest character-driven piece with a nice spin … goes in unexpected places and feels personal and heartfelt … a tearjerker that sticks the landing.”
