This project has been in the works for many years, and I could not have done it without the incredible and brilliant musicians that I've had the honor to work with, most especially, my longtime collaborator and muse, Kenny Wollesen @wollesonic #kennywollesen

Two years ago today, my installation Chime Choir opened at @waycoolergallery . Originally planned to open in April 2020, the exhibition was pushed back 7 months and opened in October. I hope to reinstall another iteration of Chime Choir in the near future.
Chime Choir was an installation of 1,250 microtonal porcelain chimes. Visitors were invited to interact with the installation and play the chimes with the provided felt hand mallets, adding their own music to a continuous loop in the @waycoolergallery space. The sound loop was created by musicians Kenny Wollesen @wollesonic and William Shore @w_shore and myself. We recorded the piece in February 2020 at Figure 8 studio with Michael Coleman @michaelprincecoleman .
I created Chime Choir to be an encompassing communal instrument that people could move in and out of and play freely, simultaneously alone and together over a span of time. My aim was to create an environment in which everyone may feel embraced and touched by the music of Chime Choir.
Chime Choir grew out of my ongoing exploration of the sonic potential of sculpture. I consider my sculptures to be fully realized when they are being played. To this end, I have organized a series of one-night musical performances, under the name SONIC MUD @sonicmud , which brings together ceramic instruments and established musicians.

Working with glass is like painting with light. Glazing ceramics is like painting in the dark. I’ve been moving more towards light these days.
Scroll through to trace, in reverse order, a very abbreviated glimpse of the multi-year path that brought me to the Glass Petal Shakers.
