Summer Solstice: Sonic Mud June 21 ✨Early Bird Tickets Out Now ✨ @sonicmud (link in bio) Join us at sundown to welcome the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year. At 6:30 PM, Sonic Mud performs—an earthen sound project by artist Julia Elsas featuring hand-built ceramic instruments such as flutes, drums, whistles, and chimes. This year’s performance grows out of a two-part Wind Chimes Workshop taking place May 17 and June 21**spots are still available to join**. Participants, including students from Artshack’s afterschool program, will take part in the final performance, activating the instruments and contributing to the evolving soundscape. This gathering is part two of three celebrations marking Artshack’s 10th anniversary. We began with Mud Wrestling, continue with this Solstice celebration, and will close with our Autumn Equinox Fundraiser on September 26—save the date. As a nonprofit, events like this support our mission to make clay accessible through classes, youth programs, and community programming.

Solstice Wind Chimes with Julia Elsas @something_elsas May 17, June 21 1PM - 4PM Join us for a very special two-part wind chime making workshop with multidisciplinary artist and instrument builder, Julia Elsas, to celebrate the summer solstice! FIRST SESSION: Julia will guide you through making ceramic components for your very own ceramic wind chime. SECOND SESSION: on the afternoon of the summer solstice, we will assemble our chimes and end the workshop with an improvisational sound performance, welcoming the longest day of the year and making intentions for the coming months. Julia Elsas is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Brooklyn, NY. Her art practice encompasses ceramics, textiles, printmaking, sculpture, installation and performance. Recent exhibitions and performances include Asya Geisberg Gallery, Available Items, Carnegie Museum of Art, Pasaquan, The Bo Bartlett Center, Isabel Sullivan Gallery and Jane Hartsook Gallery. I hope you can join me on Friday, October 10th for the opening reception of my solo exhibition, “Above Ground”, at @available_items in Tivoli, NY! I’ve spent the last 10+ years conversing and collaborating with musicians and making sound sculptures that are activated by performance (@sonicmud ). This exhibition is the result of my exploration of the ephemeral experience of sound in form through ceramic, glass, textile, and paper.
