Modernism fuelled energy inefficiency, and has had a great influence on our current environmental situation. In fact, heavy energy consumption and inefficiency is still seen today as a symbol of economic strength. Introducing SOLGAMI ALS Ambient Light System - our solution to this situation. As explained and shot in reference to the style of the influential modernist films, Jacques Tati’s Playtime, and Jørgen Leth’s The Perfect Human, by the incredibly talented @cocoandmaximilian , narrated by artificial intelligence. It’s a long story, but an incredibly important one. With the heating and cooling of buildings accounting for the second highest share of carbon emissions in our environment, and the origins of the dependence on heating and cooling being traced back to modernist architecture, we do hope you appreciate this sentiment, and the effort we’ve taken to tell this story.

The results are in! Our independent Life-Cycle Assessment has been finalised, revealing a 31% reduction in the Global Warming Potential of existing buildings when using Solgami, compared to buildings without it. This is substantial. This translates to a reduction of 1,746.32 tonnes of CO2 equivalent per building, comparable to removing 380 internal combustion engine cars from the road for a year. Our data is derived from testing conducted at The University of Sydney, supplemented by studies evaluating the average energy efficiency, emissions, floor area, and window-to-wall ratio of office buildings in New South Wales, Australia. For a customised calculation, please contact us at [email protected]. The complete LCA is available via the link in our bio. ✨

Making a material difference, out now in the @themonthlymagazine , also online, by @dneus , featuring @solgami_ , @candour.cc & @other_matter . Neustein assesses the Albanese governments allocation of (or lack of) funds in relation to innovation within our most carbon intensive economic sector: the built environment. Australia’s economy is the 93rd most complex and intelligent (of 133 countries assessed), a position we hold below Uganda, and just above Pakistan. Our ranking is anticipated to slip to 112 by 2031. Our governments lack of commitment to innovation where it is required, and over reliance on export of fossil fuels ensures a future of economic volatility. This impacts our cost of living, exacerbates our “housing crisis”, and reduces quality of life. Link in bio ✨

Harnessing Light: Solgami ALS in Action Designed starting with the sun and working backwards, Solgami ALS captures both direct and indirect sunlight, reflecting it through and between its surfaces. The device adapts to your location, modulating the incoming spectrum of ultraviolet, infrared, and visible light to create a comfortable, healthy, and low-emission living and working environment. Why is this crucial? Our buildings, often influenced by international architectural styles, are poorly adapted to local climates, leading to an over-reliance on air conditioning systems. This lack of foresight makes heating and cooling buildings the largest single source of carbon emissions globally—a situation worsening due to our changing climate. Solgami ALS not only offers significant environmental benefits by improving building efficiency, but also provides a straightforward way to reduce building operational costs. With a payback period as short as 2 years, it outperforms solar cells, which can take three times as long to pay off. Instead of adding more technology that relies on fossil fuels, why not design, build and retrofit better-performing structures that use less energy in the first place? Photo captured during early pre-production phase at Disney Studios Australia, showing Solgami ALS redirecting light.

Thank you @sumolightgroup ! Sumolight supplied the incredible lighting for our ‘Solgami meets Seagram’ exhibition for Milan Design Week, where we simulated light across the course of the day, from sunrise to sunset. Two of Sumolights preproduction Sumo Beams were utilised, specifically to simulate sunlight in our exhibition due to their incredibly narrow beam angle. Swipe to see them in action!
