Are you ready to let art surround you and lie down in the legendary »Fantasy Landscape« (edition 1/8) by Verner Panton? Mark your calendars – our upcoming exhibition »Verner Panton: Form, Colour, Space« opens on 23 May 2026, and we invite you to a 360-degree Panton experience, featuring a walk-in reconstruction of one of his famous organic living landscapes. The Danish architect and designer Verner Panton’s revolutionary understanding of space shaped post-war design like few others. Showcasing the full breadth of his creative output – from iconic pieces such as the »Panton Chair« to his lighting and textile designs – the exhibition, developed in collaboration with Verner Panton Design AG, will also feature several of his lesser-known architectural projects, bringing the spirit of the era vividly to life. @vernerpantonofficial Image: Verner Panton, »Fantasy Landscape«, installation view of the »Visiona II« exhibition, International Furniture Fair Cologne, 1970 © Verner Panton Design AG _____ #vernerpanton #design #exhibition #vitradesignmuseum #vitra

Psssst ... we have a secret to tell and are excited to announce our upcoming exhibition »Hella Jongerius: Whispering Things« at the Vitra Design Museum. #VDMHellaJongerius Hella Jongerius is among the most influential designers of the past decades. Since the start of her career in the 1990s, she has created groundbreaking works in many different disciplines, including textiles, ceramics, furniture, lighting, and sculpture. Jongerius’ research-driven approach has been a defining influence for an entire generation of young contemporary designers. The exhibition is the first retrospective of Jongerius’ oeuvre and will explore all phases of her work, including her famed collaborations with Maharam, KLM, Camper and Vitra. It is based on Jongerius’ studio archive, acquired by the Vitra Design Museum in 2024. The centre stage, though, goes to the methods of JongeriusLab – layering ideas, drawing connections, emphasising materiality, exposing process, and researching deeply, with a dedication to craft, colour, and cosmic thinking. The exhibition is accompanied by a major publication, including a documentation of the Jongerius archive at the Vitra Design Museum. Mark your calenders: »Hella Jongerius: Whispering Things« is on view from 14 March 2026 – 6 September 2026. The exhibition is supported by Global Sponsor Maharam, Sponsor Camper, and the IKEA Stiftung. Thanks to: Design Circle. Image: Keyvisual Hella Jongerius: Whispering Things © Vitra Design Museum Graphic Design: Joost Grootens based on the work Falling Vases Paintings by Hella Jongerius #design #exhibition #interiordesign #art #inspiration #furniture

Our chronologically structured exhibition »Verner Panton: Form, Colour, Space« reveals how systematically architect and designer Verner Panton developed his design ideas. As early as the 1950s, his interiors stood out as bold, colourful statements that deliberately broke with Scandinavian design traditions. Through his collaboration with Plus-linje, Panton created his first internationally recognised seating designs, including the cone-shaped Cone Chair. During the 1960s and 1970s, he greatly expanded his scope, working across corporate and private interiors as well as entire furniture systems, textiles, and lighting. Projects such as the Panton Chair brought him worldwide acclaim, followed by major commissions including the Visiona exhibitions (1968 and 1970), the interior design for the Der Spiegel publishing house in Hamburg (1969), or the Varna restaurant in Aarhus (1971). In these works, Panton merged his diverse disciplines into immersive, multisensory environments , in other words Gesamtkunstwerke. His later works from the 1980s and 1990s show how he continuously refined his formal language while remaining true to his core themes: colour, space and a playful approach to design. 📌»Verner Panton: Form, Colour, Space« 23 May 2026 – 09 May 2027 Vitra Schaudepot @vernerpantonofficial Images: 1. We are delighted to welcome Marc Lunghuß at an event accompanying the exhibition »Verner Panton: Form, Colour, Space«. The author will read from his debut novel »Am Boden« on 28 May 2026, 6:30pm at our Vitra Schaudepot. Verner Panton designed textiles, rugs, and carpets that defined an era. Marc Lunghuß tells the story of a carpet salesman from Lower Saxony whose family history weaves with the history of West Germany. In his novel, floor coverings epitomize West German interior design culture and reflect social change as well: from the spread of wall-to-wall cosiness in the 1970s and 1980s to the decline of close carpeting in the 1990s, when post-unification Germany became obsessed with hard parquet. Enjoy a glas of wine while listening to the author read from his new book. Admission free, please register via link in our bio. Image: @jordanaschramm _____________________ #vitradesignmuseum #design #bookclub #vernerpanton

On 10 May 2026 our exhibition »Science Fiction Design: From Space Age to Metaverse« at the Vitra Schaudepot will come to a close. We would like to thank everyone who has made this exhibition a huge success, including our curators Susanne Graner, Nina Steinmüller and Mea Hoffmann. With this post, we would especially like to credit the role of Joseph Grima, a long-time collaborator of the Vitra Design Museum and one of the great thinkers in contemporary design. In 2023, @josephgrima proposed to us to realize an exhibition about Science Fiction. Even if we were not able to realize the original idea for a travelling exhibition together for various reasons, the project mutated and led to the Schaudepot exhibition. We are thankful for Joseph’s important role during the exhibition’s preparation and would like to express our heartfelt thanks and appreciation for his contribution to this project. Image: Mark Niedermann #VDMScienceFiction #vitradesignmuseum #vitraschaudepot

Trained as an architect at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, Verner Panton emerged from the legendary tradition of Danish furniture design and gained early professional experience in the office of the renowned architect Arne Jacobsen. Yet he soon set off in a completely different artistic direction. From the late 1950s onwards, Panton developed radically new spatial concepts in which colour, textiles, and light played a central role. With swings and living towers, he transformed domestic interiors into playful, informal environments, while light, patterns and carefully calibrated colour schemes shaped their mood and character. Reflecting the changing conventions of the post-war years, Panton’s unconventional living environments combined radical artistic vision with the precision of an industrial designer. 📌»Verner Panton: Form, Colour, Space« 23 May 2026 – 09 May 2027 Vitra Schaudepot @vernerpantonofficial Image: Verner Panton, 1993 © Verner Panton Design AG __________ #vernerpanton #design #exhibition #vitradesignmuseum #vitra

Team up and craft a Weil Chair with a friend or a family member in a special edition of our Weil Chair workshop on 30 May 2026! Affordable design for all: This idea, as old as design itself, has lost none of its relevance. Berlin-based architect and designer Van Bo Le-Mentzel translates the concept into the digital age by making the construction plans for many of his designs available for free. Led by our instructor, you and your partner will build your own Weil Chair based on a design created by Le-Mentzel. Save your spot via link in our bio. Images: Bettina Matthiessen _______________ #vitradesignmuseum #dsign #interiordesign #weilchair
