Creating “moonlight” for Superman
Typically, you might use a moon box for a large moonlight source for a scene like this. But for Superman, they went with something much more advanced.
Gaffer Dan Cornwall, ICLS and rigging gaffer Ed Cox built a light array consisting of 70x @sumolightgroup SUMOMAX IBL lights and flew it 275ft (84m) in the air. The rig was 920ft (280m) from the subject and with the 120° diffuser the beam was 1500ft (457m) wide. The lights were only at 40% intensity.
The scene was shot at T2 at ISO 3200.
