New in stock! Soft Stir 03 — Stories of Collision Available in store ☆ What happens when objects collide? Soft Stir 03: Stories of Collision is a clash of creative expression from 45 emerging Australian poets, storytellers, musicians, photographers, and illustrators, who uncover the many ways that collisions govern our world.  Amit Noy hosts a conversation between disparate dance icons Bhenji Ra, Amrita Hepi, and Belle Beasley, confronting tradition through the language of movement. Eda Gunaydin reflects on the ever-changing space and idea of Western Sydney via her award-winning filmic collaboration with studio Subversus and Powerhouse Parramatta. Jazz Money curates an outstanding showcase of up-and-coming Indigenous artists and writers. Jordan Sharp provides comic relief with his unhinged ruminations on our contemporary techno-dystopia. Jacquie Meng illustrates the enigmatic femininity found in the backroom of strip clubs. Rising musicians FRIDAY* and Dylan Atlantis delve into their friendship and creativity that’s redefining Australian music. Plus, much more. Together, their stories are as engaging as they are urgent. From a single-celled organism to celestial bodies, violent conflicts to lovers sharing a delicate kiss, collision is the moment before, the impact and the aftermath, in which a series of forces merge, alter, and shatter one another. What new possibilities will emerge from the wreckage? 188 pages — 297 x 210 mm Sydney @softstir

Look mum, we’re on @itsnicethat ! @hyfe___ and @chloehayman_ chat to the team about the design ethos behind Stories of Collision, working with Jazz Money on our First Nations curations and the importance of physical media as an act of resistance.
When we started Issue 03, we wrote out some bucketlist goals for where the mag could go. Getting on It’s Nice That was right at the top.

Big love to our guest designers (@studiomimu @miamiamont @harrisoncromarty @m.lasuardi ) for contributing to the colliding chaos of our design and Henry (@fonduueee ) for editorial. Ty @harold__bennett for the words, and to Marigold and Jenny for the support. Link in bio to read !

Our spine of chaos, where colours collide with textures, held together by pressed palms. This collage forms a grounding motif throughout our pages, each story with its own tone and style captured through expressive typography, colour (or not), texture, layout and graphics – layers of stories accreting with layers of design. Thankyou @annikakafcaloudis for photographing ‘Stories of Collision’.

Paper upon paper, a clash of colours, mish-mashed fonts, stories accreting on stories like layers of Earth. More scenes from our series with @annikakafcaloudis , who captured ‘Stories of Collision’ with grace and reverence.

‘Stories of Collision’ captured by @annikakafcaloudis – a series of striking images showing off the irreverent beauty of the printed form, and the world in which the magazine exists; one full of collisions. Hard stone and soft fabric form an unconventional pedestal, two hands push and pull its pages, delicate paper meets coarse stone, colour clashes with colour, a powerful spread sits a-top marble cracked just after a strike. Thankyou to Annika, whose mastery of light and composition has lifted the chaos of collision across the pages into such a poised scene. Extra ty @oigall_projects for the studio & @kc_quinnn for the extra pair of hands 💋
