Franco Fontana, A Life of Photos, 2010. First edition. $285 aud plus shipping. “Franco Fontana is undoubtedly one of the most renowned Italian photographers, unanimously considered as the pioneer of color photography. During the 1970s he was able to fully exploit the inner potentialities of color photography through photos which might be situated between representation and abstraction. His daring sense of color and his skillfulness with composition gave him the opportunity to create unforgettable images that are universally praised. Franco Fontana was born in Modena, in 1933, where he lives and works. His works are displayed in many private and public collections all over the world, including the MoMA, New York; Metropolitan Museum, Tokyo; Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, Moscow; Palazzo Reale, Milan; and Maison Européenne de la Photographie, Paris.” Condition: Very good (minimal wear) Publisher: Postcart 192 pages | hardcover #francofontana

Ellsworth Kelly, At Right Angles 1964 - 1966, 1991. $95 aud plus shipping. A beautiful catalogue that accompanied the Ellsworth Kelly exhibition at Margo Leavin Gallery, Los Angeles, John Berggruen Gallery, San Francisco and Paula Cooper Gallery, New York. “The Angles, shown together for the first time in this exhibition, form a distinct group in Kelly’s work. Their use of pure geometry, primary colors, and a format that stretches the boundaries between painting and sculpture, locate them in their time and place. Twenty-five years later, however, their position in 1960s avant-garde art seems less significant than their relationship to Kelly’s entire body of work, dating back to his earliest abstractions and continuing to inform even his most recent works.” Condition: Good - very good (some light wear to cover and fragile binding, all pages intact) Publisher: Margo Leavin Gallery 32 pages | softcover #ellsworthkelly

Danny Lyon, The Bikeriders, 1997. First edition, out of print. $350 aud plus shipping. Danny Lyon joined the Chicago Outlaws Motorcycle Club in 1963 and made photographs and tape recordings with its members until 1967. First published in 1968 by the MacMillan Company, the book was remaindered and went out of print four years later. In 1997, Lyon worked with Jack Woody to re-issue the book in this sheet-fed gravure edition. Printed on Japanese paper, printed and bound by Nissha Printing Company, Kyoto, Japan. This is a personal record, dealing mostly with bikeriders whom I know and care for. If anything has guided this work beyond the facts of the worlds presented it is what I have come to believe is the spirit of the bikeriders: the spirit of the hand that twists open the throttle on the crackling engines of big bikes and rides them on racetracks or through traffic or, on occasion, into oblivion. – Danny Lyon Condition: Excellent Publisher: Twin Palm Publishers 96 pages | hardcover #dannylyon

Signed 🖊️ Collier Schorr, Blumen, 2010. First edition. $750 aud plus shipping. “The American photographer Collier Schorr has been working in Southern Germany for the past 13 years, compiling a documentary and fictional portrait of a small town inhabited by historical apparitions. For Schorr, the German landscape is a map of her own history, both imagined and inherited. Combining the overlapping roles of war photographer, traveling portraitist, anthropologist and family historian, the series Forest and Fields (Wald und Wiesen) tells the interwoven stories of a place and time determined by memory, nationalism, war, emigration and family. Blumen is the second volume of Forests and Fields and moves away from the figure. Schorr decided instead to look for or build arrangements in the landscapes and domestic and commercial settings of her much investigated town. If people appear in Blumen, they are merely props in an examination of how objects and nature create dialogues within the communities they encompass. Flowers are uprooted so as to become performers in the landscape; signage, plums, chairs and a plaster fawn are some of the shapes of things moved and combined to further detail the daily life of the townspeople of Schwabish Gmund.” 100 pages (including 2 gatefolds) | hardcover Publisher: Mack Condition: Excellent (minimal wear) #CollierSchorr
