#QOTD: When a story stops trending, do you ever wonder what happens next?
@soledadobrien says that’s exactly why impact campaigns exist: because there are so many others affected, and the “moment after” is where families are left to figure everything out.
What’s one question you wish the news asked more often?

@soledadobrien : “Trust in journalism… has really lessened.”
So what happens when you can step out of interpretation and hear it for yourself?
“This is police body cam… I don’t have to characterize… listen to what they say… what they whisper to each other.”
In Episode 3: Narrative Power, Soledad (broadcast journalist + Executive Producer of @theperfectneighborfilm ) breaks down why footage has changed storytelling—and why listening closely matters.
What do you trust more: the commentary… or the raw audio?
<The Devil Is Busy> is a short #documentary competing at this year’s #Oscars, directed by Geeta Gandbhir and Christalyn Hampton. Finger cross. 🤞🏼 Gandbhir is also one of the producers of another widely discussed documentary this year, The Perfect Neighbor.
This doc. draws its strength from a very powerful place. Instead of treating a political issue as an abstract debate, the film tells the story through the lens of everyday labor and stress. 🔦
The abortion issue in the United States is already an ideological battleground in itself. The film looks not at the rhetoric but at the practice: protesters waiting outside the door, people shouting through loudspeakers, the constant effort to determine whether someone approaching the clinic is actually a patient or someone there to provoke. In doing so, the film reveals a largely invisible field of labor. This increases the documentary’s political impact, because what the audience witnesses is not a debate but a working condition. 💔
The dimension of being one of the people of colour is also crucial in this documentary. In the United States, abortion is often discussed under the singular heading of “women’s rights,” yet in practice race, class, and immigration status completely transform this experience. If the film makes this visible, then the issue becomes not only abortion but also the question of whose body is more exposed to public scrutiny. 🏥
You can watch this beautiful piece via HBOmax. I don’t want to write much more. This documentary already speaks with a very powerful voice. And celebrate Women’s Day. 💜💪🏾
