This week we visited @soar.ne ‘s gigantic mural completed for this year’s @themuralfest in South Salt Lake. She and apprentice artist @campestral.art put up this massive piece and made it look easy. See this beautiful piece yourself at @gopaveutah , 2575 S 900 West (alley on north side of building). This is just one of Sophie’s public works you will see around Salt Lake City (and as we learned, more are coming soon 🤫). Sophie is a multi-disciplinary artist who’s work spans across a range of mediums and sizes. She’s very active in community building and engaging environmental issues by working with many organizations, such as @sevencanyonstrust and @wakegsl . Thank you Sophie for all you do in our community and inspiring the Artist Run Club SLC!

Sophie Nebeker is a Salt Lake City sculptor and muralist who creates figurative work expressing gestures in organic forms. Inspired by naturalistic symbols and ornamental patterns, her simplifications evoke a whimsical sense of play and pleasure. Meet the Artist.... @soar.ne Local to Salt Lake City, Sophie Nebeker makes figurative murals and sculptures expressing gestures in organic forms. Inspired by ornamental patterns, fauvist colors, and naturalistic symbols, she delights in the symmetry in arrangements of the figure on the 2D plane. Using flat high-chromatic colors and curved lines, her simplifications evoke a whimsical sense of play and pleasure. "Yearning for community, I facilitate workshops and public engagement in my art installations to provide aesthetic and material experiences in the pursuit of connection. Currently focused on ceramics, I am leading public ceramic workshops and raku kiln firing experiences in Salt Lake with funding from @utahmoca this summer and @slcartscouncil My most recent mural, installed at the @mavenslc in central SLC, was created with the help from amazing volunteers who painted color in the organic design." Join us at Saltgrass Printmakers for an investigation into the textural world around us using monotype printmaking. We will explore outside the studio area to collect patterns using impression stamps with a kneaded eraser, ink pad, and paper. All materials are provided, but encourage you to bring small items that you may want to take textures off of. This workshop focuses on experimentation, parallel play, and new appreciation for details in our daily lives. Leave with ideas on integrating this technique into your practice and a collection of textures and prints on paper! All ages are welcome to participate, no skill level necessary. This mural, “Splendid Bods”, is installed at the @mavendistrict in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah. Huge thanks to @slcartscouncil for the grant funding that made this artwork possible. 🌷Using fluid shapes and bold colors, this design is inspired by femininity, symmetry, repeating patterns, and the human body. A stylized yonic motif is created through repetition of a simple dancing form at different scales. 🌷This is the largest project I’ve organized and it wouldn’t have been possible without my skilled and supportive community, who showed up to help paint a giant wall. Thanks everyone @saltlakedrawingclub @passionflourslc @normal.club @judds @mavencreate @slcartscouncil for being stoked on this project. I look forward to the next one! 🌷I appreciate Salt Lake’s art and culture community for the amount of creative engaged people and the availability of resources to support their generative ideas. SLC has a substantial amount of markets, festivals, musical performances, and museums which feeds our diverse cultural community. It is clear that there is a need for these types of activities in and around our neighborhoods, and I want to encourage @saltlakecity_utah and @slcmayor to continue allocating funds for the arts!
