We’re really excited to host this special show. Lifelong Prince fan Geoff Bell speaks to David Brewis about his parasocial relationship with the artist and the grief he felt following his passing a decade ago. With Jasmine Plumpton and Gayle S. Stever, Ph.D. More info here below, find it on Sound Cloud to listen back.
Featuring Field Music’s @brewisdavid in conversation with life-long Prince fan and writer Geoff Bell, the show explores the role music and art have in shaping identity and providing comfort, inspiration and escape.
Produced for the 10th anniversary of Prince’s death, it is also a musical look at the experience of parasocial grief, which was acutely felt by Geoff following the death of the iconic artist.
Following Prince’s death, Geoff wrote and self-published Book About: A Fan’s Life with Prince, a ‘cathartic homage’ to his musical hero. This programme draws on Geoff’s book and extensive knowledge of Prince’s life, music and career to celebrate his influence.
Now a member of New Writing North’s Drop-In creative writing group in the West End of Newcastle, Geoff worked with David Brewis, audio producer Alannah Chance, poet and Swifty Jasmine Plumpton and expert on parasocial relationships, Dr Gayle S. Stever to create the show, which also includes some classics and lesser-known gems by Prince.
Ni Maxine joins us on Slacks on Friday at 1PM for ‘Around The Table with Ni Maxine’, sharing her debut EP ‘Mother’s Arms’ and some of the conversations that inspired it, along with the tracks that were on repeat throughout the process. Listen over lunch at @lubberkitchen 🍽️
Liverpool-based artist Ni Maxine is returning to Newcastle on Sunday 26th April 2026 for a headline show at Cobalt. This is a night for the therapy conscious generation whose grandparents showed them great jazz/ soul records.
Vibe: Think Sunday night jazz club, the kind of gig you could bring your mum along to as a treat.
Having shared stages with Corinne Bailey-Rae and Joel Culpepper on Tyneside soil, this ‘Neo-Jazz Star’ (NME), invites you to hear her debut EP, which has caught the attention of tastemakers Gilles Peterson and Jamie Cullum, live.

Cherry Chills Fundraiser for Lebanon
Psychic Damage w. Mark Kenosist
Hello! Please welcome one of our new residents @cherrychills_ broadcasting from Beruit, Lebanon.
Their first show aired last Friday and along with it they promoted their fundraiser to help displaced people and those whose loved ones have been murdered. We’ve added the link to our stories so you can check it out and donate if you’re able.
The horrors persist. Any small act of solidarity is a good step. Thanks 💜🌍🌟
We are thrilled to announce the launch of our new Lubber Fiend Membership Scheme!!
The scheme gives folks an opportunity to support the venue financially whilst also receiving some unique benefits back for their generosity, all managed through a digital membership card that links to Apple/Google wallet. Pretty slick.
You can sign up today via our linktree, our website, directly at the venue, or by emailing: [email protected]
There are multiple tiers of support, depending on what members can afford, and interested Fiends can sign up on a rolling monthly basis or via an annual payment with a big discount.
Membership perks include:
*Early Bird Tickets
*Discounted Tickets for members (including for big events like New Ruins Festival and our upcoming 4th Birthday Party) *
*Free-to-member’s events
*Food discounts and free hot drinks/meals at Lubber Kitchen
*Exclusive member’s merch
*A birthday gift on us
*Plus tons more!
We also want to engage more openly with members via a monthly newsletter to give insight into the day-to-day operations of the venue, alongside sneak previews of upcoming events and other collaborations.
The Lubber Fiend is all about diverse programming and building community. The venue is a non profit, DIY event space - the Directors are not salaried and a lot of the work is done voluntarily. Even hugely respected, well-established London venues like Cafe Oto rely on members to stay afloat, with rising business rates, and falling attendance, so any interest in the scheme is hugely appreciated.
*Anyone who has already purchased tickets to any of the applicable discounted events, including New Ruins, will be retroactively eligible for the discount if they sign up to the membership scheme. Simply get in touch with us at [email protected] and we will arrange a refund of the difference.
Please note: you must be a member at the point of attending an event for the discount to stand.
