World Brewers Cup 2025 Jakarta Edition.
First for everything.
Coming into this competition, and my first world event after becoming a WCC representative since end of last year, I have been preparing for this competition and was eager and excited to be part of this event. But I had no expectations coming in and I just wanted to be able to be part of something bigger.
Coming in to my first Rep / HJ Calibration, first time Head judging in a world championship and becoming a shadow HJ in the finals. And I totally enjoyed it and I feel it was a privileged to be part of the WBrC milestone. With a record number of 94 certified judges and 51 national champions and 9 finalist.
With 11 reps and 3 JOL, we had a strong team to handle this and it was a long but smooth sailing 5 days. The JOL team spend countless months in preparing this and ensuring this event to be a great one. So applause to @gugu_cathy@katarzyna_zyzalo_moczydlowska@brydon1 and not forgetting @truckeeeemmmma for taking care of the well-being of the judges and all of the behind the scenes.
Once again I would like to congratulate @georgew.peng in demonstrating your in-depth on how temperature works in the kettle brewing process and ultimately to temperature in coffee can be reflected but in a cup of coffee. But I also want to highlight that all of the other competitors are also very innovative and will help us to shape the future of specialty coffee.
Thank you to all of you for this incredible opportunity for my many firsts.
World Barista Championship 2024 BUSAN edition .
It has been a week after the championship and finally I have the time to reflect back to what happened.
A week before the championship I was still figuring if I would be able to attend the event. Getting the flight ticket a week before and getting Airbnb few days before, and I am glad that my last minute decision to head to Busan to judge WBC 2024. Definitely feels like it was the right decision for myself and my judging journey.
It was always a dream to judge on the world stage and 2023 was a start for that with Athens then followed by Taipei. Never have I ever thought that I would be given the opportunity to judge in a WBC finals, and there I was.. I am truly humbled and honored by the opportunities given to me by all the REPs which continuously support and our amazing JOL for always giving us positive vibes and maintaining good morale to all of the judges. It was great to see all the familiar faces which we don’t always get to see frequently and it was like a gathering for all of us.
It was definitely one of the best WBC with very high standards set by @boramum in 2023 and the standards continue to grow even more.
I am privileged to be able up close with the best presentations and delicious tasting coffee!
Congratulations to @mikaeljasin for getting the title and allowing us to stop and smell the flowers and for us to appreciate the beauty of the moment.
Not forgetting the others, @jacksimpson32 with the pursuit of constant improvement which is truly inspiring.
@taka_ishitani with the happiest moment on stage.
Every country champions has a message to tell and share with all of us. Keep it up and continue to tell your story.
Thank you all for the moments and the experiences.
☕ From hating coffee as a kid to judging the world’s best baristas — this is Edward Choo’s (@sieuming ) story.
He used to sneak sips from his parents’ kopi and think
“yo, it’s yuck.”
Today he owns Toothless Coffee (@toothlesscoffee ) in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, judges at the World Barista Championship level, coaches future champions, and still believes coffee is for everyone — from babies with no teeth to elders with none.
A beautiful reminder that our coffee journey doesn’t have to start with passion… it just has to start.

World Barista Championship 2025 Milan.
It’s been a week and a couple of days that passed since the WBC celebrated its 25th year’s anniversary and host at @hostmilano . It great to be back to the birth place of espresso innovation the monumental growth of specialty coffee. This year was very special for me, coming in as a new appointed WCC representative in my First WBC under a different prospect.
As always, very happy to be tasting some of the most amazing espresso and listening and indulging into the creative ideas and innovation of the current generation of baristas and how the represented the wider prospects of the whole industry and its future. And since it a was a massive event, it was great to meet back with friends that we only meet in a yearly occasions.
It was definitely one of the biggest group of WCC representative and judges which travelled from every angle of the map to gather in one place and it was always great to hear different perspectives.
Every single competitor is a champion and it truly takes a lot of time and effort and guts to make your coffee and presentations seamless. You are all great representation of the future of coffee, so please keep it up!
And like any competition, only one person can be awarded the champion. This year marks his third continuous year and every year he continuously to improve, his routine is always an evolution from the previous year yet still adopting tools from his previous routine to show his own growth. Congratulations to @jacksimpson32 and @axilcoffeeroasters for your dedication towards uplifting the whole industry.
Thank you everyone for being part of this experience for me. Till the next competition.

Thailand National Barista Championship 2025.
It’s always great to travel back to Bangkok. A city that brought me lots of laugh and joy since high school days till the continuous growth of my coffee journey.
This time I come back to Bangkok as a WCC representative for the National barista championship. This Thailand competition is dearest to my heart and always brings me lots of gratitude to be a part of the Thai coffee community.
Along side with my WCC partner @seventeenmarch for TNBC and @gugu_cathy@fionak2@reyherbert for TNBrC. We were also very blessed to have international judges flying in to share their experiences to the local judges to widen everyone perspective.
We were tremendously fortunate to have excellent calibration barista who immediately agreed to help us despite short notices. This is the true strength of the coffee community beyond borders. Thank you @mikaeljasin@heenaldo for sharing with us your precious time to making us some delicious coffee.
Thank you @readthecloud.co for your continues support in ensuring that we well equip to run the competition smoothly and for the future of the competition.
I would like to congratulate @jn_ who took home the champion title. With fierce competition from preliminary round to the final round. It was a well presented on the “growth framework”. See you in Panama 2026 !.
It is unfortunate that only one person can be name then champion and represent Thailand on the world stage. With that, I hope all the rest of the competitors do not give up hope and continue to grow on your own momentum and come back to the stage in the future. You all are champions on your own rights. Be proud of yourself and keep on fighting.
Hong Kong Brewers Cup 2025.
It has been back to back traveling for me and this time a quick 8 days stop to Hong Kong. It was welcome with a gloomy and humid weather as typhoon Wutip was just about to formed just around 800km from hongkong.
Started off with a 2 days calibration workshop with both new and experienced judges along side. As we wanted to ensure that the most recent WBRC Jakarta calibration was continued towards the national level. Working along side with @gugu_cathy@christian_chen_xtian we ensure that we transfer the skill down to national judges.
It was a challenge due to the complexity of ensuring a consistent calibration for all of the judges. Through numerous drinking of different quality of coffee and then ensuring proper comment writing which reflects the actual drinking experience we were able to accomplish this.
I am very proud and honored to be there with the tremendous unwavering support of @hksca_ in ensuring that we are taken care off and always pulling through with our demanding request. And I’m am very glad to be working with such talented group of judges which showed a high amount of professionalism and support towards the community.
Congrats to @busybeekwong who took home the title after battling over the past 4 days of competition. For the rest of the brewers, everyone is a champion in their own right and they have to keep being optimistic and proud of themself for putting up a good show and always trying to brew the best cup of coffee that they can.
Sharing here some snaps of the FIRST EVER WCC SCA Judges Skills Workshop in the Philippines. Class facilitated by @sieuming in partnership with @deuces.co and @_rrl
Unbelievably incredible opportunity to have attended this certification class.
