For Rolling Stone's March 2026 cover package, co-Editor-in-Chief @shirleyhalperin talks about her interview with @johnmayer memorializing the great Bob Weir.
Proud to present @rollingstone ’s March issue honoring @bobweir and the @gratefuldead — with two collectible covers, one featuring the classic 1967 logo — to the eyes of the world!
With love and appreciation for the tireless RS staff, which came together to reflect on the incredible 60-year legacy of a band so deeply tied to the history of Rolling Stone that this magazine owes some of its very existence to their music.
Bobby — that’s how he was known to those who loved him, both near and far — by virtue of being the “rhythm” guitarist in the Dead, was the band’s heart. Sure, eyes were on Jerry Garcia’s skillful fret work, but discerning ears were attuned to the groove, be it Phil Lesh’s serpentine runs, drummers Mickey Hart and Bill
Kreutzmann’s intertwined beats, or Bobby’s absolute command of the chords that set a roadmap for the melodies.
For this special print edition, we looked inward — to find emotional connections with the Dead. In the issue, John Mayer shares his memories of playing in the band. RS contributor David Browne digs into Bobby’s years of soul-searching following the death of Jerry. Rob Sheffield shares his evolution from Eighties goth kid to die-hard Deadhead. And friends, family, and fellow musicians remember the man and the band that changed music forever.

Janet Jackson speaking in Beverly Hills tonight for the Grammy Hall of Fame gala.
"Rhythm Nation still resonates on a deep and profound level. It's an ongoing force that fights bigotry and promotes understanding. It cannot be stopped. It's simply too strong and too positive.
... When you hear the music of Rhythm Nation, I hope you hear my heart's desire. More than ever, my hope is that we might live in a world free of fear and despair." #janetjackson

Watching @netflix ’s ‘Trust Me: The False Prophet,’ I couldn’t help but be drawn to the story of @nomzia_b and her musicality. That voice was meant for bigger, better things.
As @elizabethyuko writes for @rollingstone : When Naomi ‘Nomz’ Bistline initially auditioned to be in her prison’s band, she tried out to be the guitarist. “Then I started singing a little and they said, ‘Put the guitar down. Let’s just hear you sing,’” she says. “I sang Miley Cyrus’s song, ‘Flowers,’ a cappella. And they said ‘We got our lead vocalist.’”

Passover snaps, all-girl edition! Thanks to @bjealliance and @atonbh for a meaningful seder, and to @saturnj for the perennial invite. Hoping for happier days...
Journey is embarking on a 100-date farewell tour with a guitarist and keyboardist who are actively suing each other, a lead singer taking oxygen between songs, and no manager. And yet somehow, when the music starts, none of that matters. A fascinating look at what keeps a band together when everything else is pulling it apart. Full feature at @rollingstone .
