Had such an amazing week with @willllturner and @collindrums tracking drums and percussion for a bunch of new @theheavyheavy songs. I loved learning about Will’s approach to writing and recording and these new tunes are really cool. Collin’s sensibilities and drumming were a great fit for the music and there wasn’t an hour that went by where I didn’t look through the control room glass and see him back there behind the kit smiling as he was laying down a take. Great vibes all around… a really special week. Thank you guys. The only thing missing was @geegeethemayqueen Maybe we can get her in next time! Can’t wait to share this music with you one day. Big thanks to @thebyrdagency ❤️
One of my favorite things to film is a live studio session. Video is seriously so important, and its cool knowing that on top of a music release that my video can help extend reach for freshly recorded tracks. This was a session with @connorbernhardmusic and his band!

There is not enough space in any post to hold how I feel about Tony. He was simply a force of nature personified. We really got to know each other when he moved next door to me on Walton- literally window-to-window next door, back around 2011/12.
Having Tony as a neighbor was a deeper level, one we both jumped on quickly. He loved to talk about art and the whole enchilada around making, showing, etc. and was happy to do so with me. His kids were teenagers, mine very young, he was working some things out at the time but still making sure to enjoy life as he did so well. With T and his fam, plus assistants, drivers, there came a merry band of friends and rotations of new people too. I’d escape over to his place -so conveniently close, and he would always offer food, drinks, a sit down, unless he was on task- he was a very disciplined workhorse. We all enjoyed movie nights, game of thrones episodes, sports, and the witty repartee he came with and pulled out of others.
Perhaps my favorite thing though was the across the fence chats, venting and gossiping. Our back decks aligned pretty well so we could both comfortably be on our own sides and shoot the breeze. I can happily tell you he taught my kid many vital life lessons especially how to properly swear. He loved Kai. He saw the spark in him. Knowing Uncle Tony helped Kai grow in confidence and determination both by watching him work and by treating the child Kai like a human with all the dignity of a grown up. “Look ‘em in the eye and Be Magnanimous Kid”, he said on more than one occasion. Uncle Tony gave Kai so many etchings it was like mana from heaven for us all. in 2021 I got Tony to come record himself reading his poetry and stories into a proper microphone and high-end recording gear fitting for posterity at Shirk Studios. The recordings are archived now and will officially become the property of his family, once things settle down. I hope that everyone will enjoy hearing our great friend once again speaking his truth.
Fly on brother T, you will be sorely missed and never forgotten.

We said goodbye to Mom this weekend and I just want to celebrate her a little more. The whole family and many friends chipped in to make the weekend extra special and honor her memory. My task was to compile old footage and photos for a memorial video and that endeavor could not have been a more cathartic process for me. Something I was honored to do and now am truly grateful for. For the past half century I’ve mostly looked at Linda Shirk through the lens of motherhood. Sifting through all the old footage and images really helped me see past that and appreciate her for the amazing, dynamic and beautiful woman that she was. Here are a few of my favorite clips against one of her favorite songs. One day we will ride again, Mom. You bring the Buick station wagon, I’ll bring the red 8-track Simon & Garfunkel tape. We’ll roll down the windows, crank up the volume and sing our hearts out. ❤️
I wrote an opera in one act called Wayfarers All based on the chapter of the same name from Kenneth Grahame's book The Wind in the Willows. We recorded a demo of a portion of Scene 5 at @shirkstudios back in May. I have been waiting on a Certificate of Registration (which came in the mail yesterday!) before posting this. Here, in the numbers "Palermo" and "From Corsica", Sea Rat enthralls Water Rat with his tales of seafaring and adventure as Water Rat second guesses his own habit of country dwelling. Dan Riley delivers a magnificent performance as Sea Rat and Stu Mindeman beautifully supplies the orchestral reduction on piano. Video by the great Roberto Flores. It was a pleasure working with all involved. Now let's get this thing performed!
