Today, I have the privilege of sharing with you my String Quartet No. 1 “Nova Deco.” This is a piece of music that I composed over a ten year span - picking it up, putting it down, re-writing, re-imagining, doubting, believing, and everything in between. It is truly a dream to have a work of this scale completed ~ a feeling I have dreamt about since spinning Haydn and Ravel records in college.

This music is written in three movements. It is (to my ear) rooted in late 19th century/early 20th century harmonic language. It feels like a sojourn to our past, a variation of an era, a celebration of certain intersections within our broad beautiful language of music. It is, at this point, entirely, for you. I hope it brings you a sense of wonder. I hope it encourages your imagination to be industrialized towards your own world-building bliss.

Without these wonderful imaginative, communicative, risk-taking players, this piece wouldn’t be here for us to enjoy.
