In the first week of this year, right before our show at The Ryman with the great Peter Rowan, we went into one of my favorite studios, the Tractor Shed, with one of my favorite engineers and people, @seansullivanaudio and we spent three days pickin’ and singin’ in front of some really nice microphones. We’ve had quite the year and have hardly had time to come up for air, but I’ve been working whenever we’ve been off the road on presenting some of these tunes to all of you.
I’m extremely excited to finally share the first full length SGP record with the world. It is a sonic snapshot of some of my favorite music and musicians from a particular moment in time this January. I couldn’t be more proud of my friends for playing their hearts out on these songs we love so much, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunity to share this music with the community of music appreciators we are so lucky to be a part of.
As of today, you can stream the record on whichever of the platforms you prefer. If you’re really digging what you hear, I encourage you to download the high-definition master from my dad’s record label Acoustic Disc starting tomorrow! I have been lucky to have been lucky to have been surrounded by great music, musicians, and musical instruments for as long as I can remember. I owe this to my father who is not only a world class musician and composer, but also a passionate instrument collector.
We used to spend time together when I was a little kid going to vintage instrument stores and guitar shows at home in California and this continued out on the road as I got older and began to tour with him. So many incredible people have come into our lives through this shared passion for cool old instruments.
My Dad has long surrounded himself with great sounding stringed instruments and has a great eye and ear for obscure and unique pieces that have always brought color and music into our home. Recently, he has been freeing up closet space by making some of these instruments available and selling them directly to folks from his website.
There are banjos, mandolins, guitars, and every flavor of stringed instrument imaginable - ranging from “wall hangers” to professional caliber axes. The best part is, they’re all playable and sound cool otherwise they wouldn’t have made it into his collection in the first place. Each instrument comes with a certificate of authenticity designed and signed by the Dawg himself. Check em out via the 🔗 in bio!
