Some thoughts about dancefloor connections and and the dancefloor space. What happens there is sacred, and it happens in place where we show a part of us that is authentic. There is nothing trivial about the simple act of dancing. Those of us that choose to move our bodies to the music, engage in an act of expression that is deeply personal. And I invite you to think for a moment on how special it is to share the dance with somebody. To look at someone you just met, and simply, move your bodies to the rhythm. That ritual sometimes brings connections that transcend that moment, and friendships that, despite the short time spent together feel strong. But some times, that connection feels even deeper, like you met, as they say “brothers/sisters from another mother”. I told you how I feel about @danpeplow and @jakejrogers Since we crossed paths with Dan and Jake, the adventures have always been magical. No wonder why! True music lovers, they emanate an incredible energy that they share with those around them. Always surrounded by their lovely friends, these two legends are caring, always bringing positive vibes. They are also active participants in music: the project @abovebelowfestival is the perfect example of this. Oh, and their music taste is immaculate. 🤌🏼🤌🏼 What we have the honor to share with you today is the recording from the @pintai_ event in London last November. Best friends since age 11, this was actually the first time Dan and Jake played out together, despite countless moments at home where the audience was just the two of them and sharing music with each other almost everyday. It was the opening set of the night, and they wanted to treat that slot with respect, laying the foundations, building things patiently, and platforming @hame.compathy in a specific way. 🌕 LINK IN BIO 🌕 May's full moon was shining bright last night. It feels warm outside, and the mood has already shifted into something happier, more celebratory. Spring is on. And it is with this beautiful setting that we have reached our 70th episode of Selene Series. During the last weeks I have been going through a process of music collection reset. Getting a new computer has become the excuse to revisit my entire music collection. A conscious decision of re-downloading everything again, re-listening to it, and create new and more meaningful playlists and tags. The goal is to move away from browsing through playlists with names of events I played, and have a collection of genres, moods, vibes that enable better song choices. For now, I just finished re-downloading and adding to rekordbox my Bandcamp purchases, and the task of going through 3.5 thousand songs is as scary as it has been fun so far. Soon I will start with music coming from other sources, probably an ever bigger number. The way I approach it changes depending on the day: sometimes i flick through songs and add tags and add them to playlists. But often this feels unfair to the music. The best way I think is to select an "area" (often bpm) and play. I think that mixing the songs and listening in full allows for better understanding of what the music can bring. This mix is an extract of one of those moments. Navigating the 110-115 bpm area, not fully remembering each song, re-adjusting the grid lines if needed, and tagging and play listing. Some of these mixes come with unexpected twists, questionable combinations and far from perfect technique. But there is something about the spontaneous and unknown that gives them a particular and special character. Welcome back to Selene Series, see you when the moon is full... Something we believe in around this channel is serendipity. Chance will play it's cards, paths will cross if they have to, things will fall into place. For long we wanted to get a mix from this artist in our collection, and we trusted the right time would come. And last November, Club Aura at @lautbarcelona brought us the moment. It was time to have a recording from @padduan in the channel. Master selector of all things deep, chill and ambient, Paduan has always displayed an exquisite taste, not only limited to horizontal sounds. A true melomaniac, comfortable in any genre, any era. But I always found that his downtempo selections were a special treat. Maybe because it is a sound I am less used to, but his 'chill out' always hit different. His events @intotheuniverses together with Will Oirson and Vincent Rang are a feast for eyes and ears, where experimental electronics mix with visual art in a show that blew me away multiple times. It is fair to say that this channel would not be the same if we never crossed paths with Paduan, and we are blessed to have him in our life, and to be able to share special musical moments together! For his set at @casa.montjuic Paduan delivered a masterclass in chill out sounds. Think 90s/early 00s nostalgia, downtempo vibes and floaty psychedelic sounds. A perfect set that works both for listening and for pendulum dancing (which indeed we ended up doing on that day). A treasure of a selection that he has kindly shared with us. What a gift. 🌕 LINK IN BIO 🌕 This month's full moon recording comes in partnership with the beloved Mimi Collective. A group of amazing humans that I hold very dear. This set is my gift to them, and also you can consider it the 69th entry of our Series. For this mix I wanted to channel a bit of what I believe brings MiMi and the MiMians together. Affinity for experimental sounds (Unsound regulars), breaks and open-mindedness. An absolutely stunning bunch of people that I hold very dear and I hope will enjoy this mix and discover something new. Although that is a tall mission given their exquisite taste! I like to join the dots between sometimes distant eras of music and in this case I thought that the amazing "De Natura Sonorum" from Bernard Parmegiani would be a nice bridge from electroacustic experimentation into the start of an experimental breaks journey. Connecting this 1975 piece with a 2025 song from Aa Sudd is the type of curveball I like. Welcome back to Selene Series, see you when the moon is full... I am sure you have experienced something similar: a connection with an artist through their output and their way of understanding music, no matter the physical distance. When everything they share hits the right spot. When regardless of genres, the energy and intention they convey feels in line with yours. This channel has felt this way, for a long time, with @sarahhwreath , and it was only a matter of time we made this happen and we were honored with one of her mixes for The Continuum. Sarah's approach is not tied to a specific genre. Her sounds are always psychedelic, mental, avant-garde. And these choices can take the form of ambient, techno, downtempo or anything in between. Does this approach sound familiar? Sarah and Selene Series are a match, and after connecting a while ago we were itching to release her take on The Continuum. But first, some words about Sarah: a regular in venues like Tresor, in 2024 Sarah released her debut LP Integration on the renowned label @thebunkerny , underscoring her commitment to immersive rhythm and sonic exploration. This path led to her collaboration on @sandwell_district_official album End Beginnings , placing her within the current vanguard of experimental techno. Recent releases on great labels like @predawn_records or @wabisabi_ai show that she is at the top of her powers right now. For her gift to The Continuum Sarah created a mix on a slower bpm, showing that slower tempos can also carry incredible depth, energy and emotion. Intensity and physicality are not dependent on the speed of music, and here Sarah delivers a masterclass on patient energy release. A sonic potion that required slow but constant stirring 😉 Thank you Sarah, this is a special one we have been waiting on for some time, and one of those connections this channel exists for. Our Continuum is inhabited by many artists, each one with their own voice and universe. We still find it hard to describe what is it that connects all of it and all of them: it is not a location, it is not a particular genre, it is not a specific club. Talking about energy, approach, attitude, philosophy becomes abstract very quickly. But one thing is undeniable: some of the artists are a key part in creating some form of glue, and are connectors of this "something" that transcends easy descriptions. And @kamunas is that. Part of the @espacio.perpendicular crew in Madrid, Camu is one of those that keeps the fire burning (figuratively and literally as seen in ambient rooms). As a selector, I always found that texture, material, grittiness and moody atmospheres are his most commonly used tools. He presents introspective mixes with drones, sub bass that speaks, deformed instruments through heavy processing and very tactile music. This is ambient that challenges you as a listener. This mix is a recording from the Temple event at Espacio Perpendicular last October. A special gathering for listeners that happens in a special place. 🌕 LINK IN BIO 🌕 February's full moon arrives the first day of the month this time. A perfect aligned start of a month of waking up, and slowly gathering the energy for the months to come. But the 67th chapter of Selene Series invites you to cling onto that blanket one more day. I haven't shared an ambient mix since the episode 55 of the series, around a year. Since then, I had the opportunity to share some ambient mixes on other wonderful channels (and some more are coming!) but every now and then I need to share some of that music here. This time I went for a folder of a particular type of music that I am trying to collect: it's ambient yes. It is plucky, digital but warm. It is floaty and bubbly. Feels wholesome, 90's, feels winamp and early internet. I don't know, some songs I listen to them and go directly to that folder. Other times these celestial bodies will bring feelings of familiarity, comfort and warmth. Whatever it may be, they are part of our Continuum, and a piece of the story we want to share. This time we want to introduce you to the sonic world of @serenus_sound As often with this channel, an unknown passion for similar styles of music is what made us cross paths with Max. There is no stronger force than the gravitational pull of music. And is one of those nights when things click. When you get to know the person. When you feel, not only a similar taste, but a similar ethos and intention. When Serenus is not between record crates at @zwart_goud , beloved record store in Amsterdam, he is one of the people behind @lowpass_collective . An events collective now also turned label (check the super recent announcement on their first release) focusing on that sound we love: psychedelic, deep, avant-garde, mental. Lowpass has been bringing top musicians to intimate settings, and last November they ventured into "listening events" with a formula that was bound to succeed: an incredible setting at the @genezarethkirche_startbahn in Berlin, a killer lineup with @jakojako_live x @rubenmbese , Tancrède, @c.a.m.o.s and both Lowpass @aprs_music and Serenus. Unbeatable. You can imagine how special this gift is for the channel. A hybrid set, recorded at a special setting. I did not expect what Max shared with us: an experimental breaks start that morphs into ambient soundscapes. A process of deconstruction and metamorphosis. I personally love artists that challenge conventions, and in a world often obsessed with "progression", particularly upwards progression, this take on slowing down and deconstructing felt bold, brave, and expertly executed. A lot of the music is layered with synths, and a mix where the lines between dj and live are very blurred, specially from halfway till the end. A true joy to listen to.
