This song is about how we perform our selves and construct hyper realities. Ultimately we urge you to pay attention to your real life - give affection to all the things that you’ve neglected…. The song was recorded live (yes!) by Brad Kaminski at @vertig0studios in May and produced and mixed by us. Entertainment! is one of those records where germs of influence can be traced through many genres & countless bands, both favorably & unfavorably. From groups whose awareness of genealogy spreads wide enough to openly acknowledge Gang’s influence (Fugazi, Rage Against the Machine), to those not in touch w/ their ancestry enough to realize it — all have appropriated elements of their forefathers’ trailblazing contribution. Its vaguely funky rhythmic twitch, its pungent, pointillistic guitar stoccados & its spoken/shouted vocals. Lyrically, it’s apart from many of the day & still is. Gang rants @ revisionist history in Not Great Men self-serving media & politicians in I Found That Essence Rare & sexual politics in Damaged Goods. Though the brilliance of💿thrives on faster material — especially febrile side A — a true highlight amongst highlights is closing Anthrax, full of barely controlled feedback squalls/moans. It’s nearly psychedelic, something post-punk & new🌊were never known for. W/ slight death rattle & plodding bass rumble, King equates❤️ w/ 🦠 & admits to feeling like a 🪲 on its back. In the background, Gill speaks in monotone of why Gang doesn’t do❤️songs. Excerpt from an interview I did with @mt.fog talking about my process in creating the artwork for the album- you can read the whole thing in their Nov 25 Newsletter-sign up link in their bio(i think)! ************************************************+Anything you want people to know about the art you made for Every Stone is Green? In terms of its process/story/ colors/ shapes/ whatever! Every Stone is Green, the painting, came out of a deep mutual resonance between myself and the members of Mt Fog. I also took inspiration from a Pinterest mood board Carolyn created, mp3’s with demos of the secret new songs that I’d listen to on my runs, seeing Mt Fog perform live and of course from Carolyn introducing me to the world of Hildegard Von Bingem. Through many texts & conversations about art, creative process and the new work she and the band were recording, I spent a lot of time early on just thinking and considering where the creative intersections between us all were. By the time I felt the urge to start experimenting with imagery, I think I had embodied the poetry of Mt Fog’s catalogue. I would say there was a component of reverse ekphrasis* beginning to occur with the poetry of her favorite song lyrics from the new album that I asked her to handwrite out and send a jpeg of to me that got stirred around in my psyche to become a visual translation of her world into mine.
