Calling all listeners! UCDS 1st- and 2nd-grade students are making their radio broadcasting debut this coming weekend! Their new show, “Somethin’ Fishy,” is airing and streaming on Seattle’s SPACE 101.1 FM, Saturday mornings in May at 9am. It features UCDS 1-2s as DJs, interviewers, game show hosts, and poets!
They created “Somethin’ Fishy,” which is a four-episode musical podcast series, to celebrate and share about their educational journey in caring for and learning about salmon. Throughout the series, listeners will be treated to the student scientists’ firsthand discoveries, questions, observations, and some catchy, sea-worthy tunes!
This week’s episode’s theme is all about salmon habitat and features special guests from
@seattle_public_utilities Cedar River Watershed Education Center.
We’d like to give a shout-out to everyone who helped bring this podcast to life: the students and 1-2 team who poured countless hours into writing, researching, and recording each episode; Mark Patterson and the community at
@space101fm for hosting us in their studios and the use of their airwaves; the interviewees who kindly gave their time to answer our students’ questions; 1-2 teacher Ziggy, who recorded much of the audio; and last but certainly not least, Drew, our Digital Media Specialist and the creative force behind this project, who supported every step of the process, including writing and recording the theme song, editing the entire show, and so much more.
We hope you enjoy listening as much as we enjoyed creating it!
