Posted @withregram@caartsadvocates We are thrilled to announce this major advocacy win! This achievement underscores the power of sustained advocacy, a result of the grassroots coalition work of the SB 1116 coalition, which includes Arts for LA @arts4la , the Association of California Symphony Orchestras @acso_gram , Theatre Bay Area @theatrebayareasf , Theatre Producers of Southern California @theatreprodsoca and dedicated individuals in performing arts organizations across the state. It also highlights the direct lobbying strength of Actor’s Equity @actorsequity and CA Arts Advocates, the sole comprehensive lobbying organization for California’s arts, culture, and creative industries. As we approach our fiscal year-end, your support is essential. Join CAA today to help us reach our goal: caartsadvocates.org/members In addition, the bill includes funding to the California Arts Council of $2.5m for the Historic South Los Angeles Black Cultural District. These funds shall be available for expenditure or encumbrance until June 30, 2028, and up to 1 percent of this funding may be used to support administrative costs. There is also about $300,000 for two positions to provide outreach and contract or grant management activities to further expand programs into communities and populations that continue to be underrepresented in the arts. As the budget bills progress we will keep you posted on the final outcomes. #PAEPF #PerformingArts #SB1116 #artsadvocacy #protectlocalperformingarts

Posted @withregram@caartsadvocates Advocacy Victory! The Performing Arts Equitable Payroll Fund (PAEPF) has taken an important step forward in the legislative process. Lawmakers are now pushing back against the Governor’s May Revise proposal, which aimed to eliminate the $11.5 million in funding. The PAEPF has officially been included in the legislative budget, positioning us well to prevent the rollback of these vital funds. The next step: votes on the Assembly and Senate floors. From there, the budget moves to the Governor’s desk. Join Actor’s Equity @actorsequity and Arts for LA @arts4la and contact Governor Newsom @cagovernor to emphasize the critical need for this funding. Nearly 6,000 letters were sent to legislators, and we need to generate even more to the Governor! Elected officials prioritize issues based on demonstrated interest. Posted @withregram@caartsadvocates Advocacy works! The Legislature has released a draft budget that restores $11.5 million to the Performing Arts Equitable Payroll Fund (PAEPF)! Huge thanks to the Speaker, ProTem, Budget Leadership Asm. Gabriel and Sen. Wiener and our Legislative champions Asm. Matt Haney and Sen. Ben Allen and all the grassroots advocates who contacted lawmakers and pushed for this vital funding. The $11.5 million is crucial to keeping small nonprofit performing arts organizations running across California. The fight isn’t over yet. The Senate Subcommittee will vote on this item on June 10 at 9 AM, and we need to ensure the Administration supports the proposal. Together, we can make this happen! Stay tuned and stay engaged. Friends: Please keep your efforts up to push your state reps to support the Performing Arts Equitable Payroll Fund. It’s working!   Your calls and emails this week have inspired almost a DOZEN state assemblymembers to step up and put their credibility on the line to officially support this effort. That’s HUGE, but we’ve got to keep the push going today, especially with state senators.   If you haven’t contacted your state senator and assemblymembers yet—Please take a few minutes right now to do so!   Find your reps here: https://findyourrep.legislature.ca.gov   Here’s what you can say:   “I’m calling/writing about the Governor’s May budget revision proposal to claw back the $11.5 million dollars for the Performing Arts Equitable Payroll Fund, SB1116.    I’m a constituent, and I’m urging the Assemblymember/Senator to sign onto the letter of support to restore funding for the PAEPF submitted by their colleague, Assemblymember Matt Haney / Senator Ben Allen.   This is a smart, sane way to invest in small nonprofit performing arts organizations, that more than pays back in jobs, in tax revenue, and in support for other local business. Without it, we’ll be paying out in unemployment!   We know the governor has to make some tough calls right now. This is not a smart call—this funding is an investment with a real return. Cutting the promised $11.5 million won’t make a dent in the deficit, but i t will cost jobs, and hurt California businesses like mine.    Please sign onto the support letter for the PAEPF.   Thank you.” #saveartsjobs #savepaepf

‼️Please share, comment, and tag @cagovernor and your elected state representatives! ‼️ Posted @withregram@laistofficial Last Saturday, Gov. Gavin Newsom rocked out in Napa Valley and took a stand for the arts in California. “Make arts matter again,” he said. But the statement left arts administrators in Southern California scratching their heads. “It feels like the governor speaks the language of supporting the arts,” said Beatrice Casagrán, artistic director of Ophelia’s Jump, a theater in Upland in San Bernardino County. “His actions say something different.” Casagrán is one of thousands of arts professionals in California watching whether Newsom will follow through on a proposal to zero-out $11.5 million already allocated to the Performing Arts Equitable Payroll Fund. The deadline for cuts to be final is June 15. 🔗 Our link in bio has more details. ✍️ Adolfo Guzman-Lopez 📷 Ophelia’s Jump

Posted @withregram@arts4la 🗣️ The Performing Arts Equitable Payroll Fund is under threat—again. The Governor’s May revision proposes eliminating $11.5 million in already-allocated funding meant to support small performing arts nonprofits across California. Sound familiar? The demand was overwhelming (hundreds of organizations applied), and now the program is at risk of being canceled while applications are still under review. 👉 The demand is clear. The program is built. The funding is threatened. 📲 Take action with Arts for LA, @caartsadvocates and @theatreprodsoca by calling your legislator today and opposing this cut at the link in our bio (ACTION CENTER).

Posted @withregram@caforthearts ATTN: the Performing Arts Equitable Payroll Fund (PAEPF) grant opportunity will be opening soon! If you lead a California Nonprofit 501(c)(3) or Model C fiscally sponsored performing arts organization that has employees, this opportunity may be for you! PAEPF supports small nonprofit performing arts organizations (SNPAOs) with adjusted gross revenue under $2 million, to hire and retain employees. To qualify, the performing arts organization’s primary mission must be the creation of, or presentation of, performing arts in productions that are advertised and open to the public and must be paying their workers as employees. Together with CalOSBA @californiaosba and our statewide community partners, we are hosting a series of informational webinars. We will review the eligibility criteria and the application process in detail, including what you can do now to get ready. Swipe through to see the webinar schedule for the week of 2/10/2025. You are welcome to attend any session as all webinars will be covering all aspects of the program. Visit the link in our bio to learn more about the program and to register for the webinars. PAEPF is funded through a grant with the California Office of the Small Business Advocate. The program is administered by CalOSBA and managed by CA for the Arts. #PAEPF #PerformingArts #LiveArts #GrantOpportunity #Funding #CAisCreative

REPOST • @caforthearts 📣Advocacy victory! The final 24-25 California budget restores 75% of arts funding cuts. Governor Newsom @gavinnewsom has signed the 2024-25 California budget plan, officially restoring 75% of state funding for the arts that had been cut in the May budget proposal. Presented to the Governor by Senate President pro Tempore Mike McGuire and Speaker of the Assembly Robert Rivas @caspeakerrivas , the final budget includes $12.5 million to fund the long awaited Performing Arts Equitable Payroll Fund (SB 1116) and reduces the California Council’s budget by just $5 million for two years, restoring the agency’s budget for local assistance grants back to $26 million in 2026-27. The initial budget proposed a $10 million ongoing cut to the agency’s funding. ⭐Your advocacy worked! Advocates submitted over 11,000 letters, as well as made phone calls, provided public comment in hearing and met with their legislators. The legislature listened and recognized that the arts are essential to every community in CA. ⭐Special thanks to our partners - Actors’ Equity @actorsequity , Theatre Producers of Southern California @theatreprodsoca and Arts for LA @arts4la , and everyone who took action!
