Well this is just RIDICULOUS!
Thank you to Jenny Block for sharing our story with warmth & humor in the paper of record. We can’t believe our luck.
Thank you to Sophia for marrying us & to Jake for marrying me!
Over the moon & feeling so lucky to present Charlotte Edey’s first solo presentation in NYC. Charlotte’s surfaces - pastel, beadwork, stained glass - are sublime, delicious, luminous, uncanny. These dream-like interiors, bodily and architectural, demand to be seen in person! On view through Valentine’s Day.
Grateful to @seaviewla@saraleehantman@ginnyonfrederick@freddiempowell for their staunch championing, collaboration, friendship & to @edey_ for her trust & brilliance!
A month in Kyoto wouldn’t have been enough. Floating on air in this beautiful, surprising city of temples, moss, craft boutiques, & noodles.
Delirious after visiting ~ Katsura Imperial Villa, artist Kawai Kanjiro’s House, Tofuku-Ji Temple,
Ryoan-ji, Otagi Nenbutsuji Temple, wandering endless incomparable tiny shops for books, prints, paints, brushes, ceramics, potpourri, sauces, seeds, treats.
Just a few of my favorite things in Tokyo - the marvelous 1919 Kyu Asakura House, Frank Lloyd Wright’s Imperial Bar, dried persimmons, the simple charcoal grill kitchen at Aoyama Ototo (a pitch perfect restaurant), tuna & cubed pickled radish on rice, Corbusier’s only building in Japan, the incredible light, obsessive attention to design of every imaginable object, & organized chaos everywhere you turn!
Letter of recommendation - marry an architect, get happily schlepped along on pilgrimages. Today’s was to Jun’ya Ishigami’s KAIT design workshop building & plaza - one is a space for creative cross-disciplinary work, the other a space for students to daydream, prance, and zone out. Utopian!
The good news & bad news is that this project has spoiled me for life. Congratulations to Jesse Mockrin on the opening of her brilliant solo exhibition “Echo” at the AGO Toronto, organized by maestro curator Adam Harris Levine. Two years of conversation, scheming, creative thinking, very unserious group texts, & ”doesn’t hurt to ask” mentality led us to this moment and to this gorgeous book, which (perfectly thematically) grants the whole thing immortality.
Thank you @jessemockrin for your trust, your generosity of spirit and knowledge (how to make art & how to make a life), @adamlevineago for deep and unparalleled engagement, scholarship, & friendship, @dlouisnorr for infinite enthusiastic support & for saying “hey, what if we made a book?”, Jacoba Urist and Carmen Maria Machado for their sharp interpretations of the work, @lydiamelamedjohnson for fairy-godmothering this idea into existence.
Incredible team: @agotoronto@jamescohangallery@nightgallery@jacnyc@carmenmmachado@kathrynyuen@alinaskyson@dahveeduh@sarahstengel@caterinaphilomena@ray_jenn@10pointfont@will_iam_hathaway@jimshedden@artbook@delmonico_books@weeks52 & to @echohopkins for lending your name. Book images by Paul Weeks.
How lucky am I to watch this tour de force painting by Jesse Mockrin reveal itself over many months - a contemporary feminist reframing of the Abduction of the Sabine Women & a nod to Persephone’s descent into the underworld, into chaos, into madness!! As brilliant & bitingly relevant as always.
@hamptons20centurymodern ’s third annual house tour! Fast becoming my favorite day of the year. Featuring the magnificent Saltzman House ‘69 cared for by three generations of the original family, by the immensely talented & very cancelled Richard Meier, Andrew Geller’s ‘57 perfect tiny Amagansett beach house most recently known as the very sexy backdrop of the tv show “The Affair”, a real gem by Barbara & Julian Neski & a Villa Savoye-esque Peter Blake, lovingly kept as they were meant to be lived in, & an imaginative re-do of a 1970s home by Oza Sabbeth. Congrats to my mom @susanhorowitzproject , her partner in crime @timothy_godbold@cottagesgardens . Join us next year to help preserve modernist architecture on the East End, see incredible spaces, and engage in some really truly excellent snooping & schmoozing.
Eternal thanks to @openpalmgc@zoelukov@palmheightsgc for making Naudline Pierre queen of Carnival & welcoming us to paradise. Turns out paradise is profiteroles, two separate pool-side lending libraries, a radically warm & creative community of people who just want to make cool things, support artists, and constantly reapply sunscreen.
