Art Basel Hong Kong opens for preview today, Tuesday, March 26, and continues through Saturday, March 30. Join us at Booth 3D17 to view a presentation of works by gallery artists, including Daniel Richter’s ‘I can feel it,’ 2024, pictured here. The evocative figurative elements in ‘I can feel it’ are excavated from—or, more accurately, submerged in—a dense, crimson ground. Richter transforms sketches from everyday life (“[a] child at the dentist, boys playing basketball”) into complex, energetic compositions that oscillate between figuration and abstraction. Semi-autonomous forms constructed from hard lines and opaque streaks of varicolored paint appear to reach for one another across a shadowy, circular void at the painting’s center. The mutual attraction of Richter’s opposing figures suggests numerous competing narratives and affects, from kinship or reciprocal curiosity to a bitter contest for dominance. Explore the gallery’s online viewing room via the link in our bio, which features additional highlights from our presentation at @ArtBasel Hong Kong including works by Kevin Beasley, Anish Kapoor, Glenn Ligon, Marilyn Minter, Jack Pierson, Daniel Richter, Wolfgang Tillmans, and Sue Williams. Image: Daniel Richter, ‘I can feel it,’ 2024 #ArtBasel #ArtBaselHongKong #ABHK #DanielRichter #RegenProjects

Happy birthday, Matthew Barney! Congratulations to the artist on a banner year! Among other achievements, Barney was elected into the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and his new, critically-acclaimed film ‘SECONDARY’—which debuted in the summer of 2023 as a multi-channel, studio installation—was dubbed a ‘Defining Artwork’ of the year by @ARTnews , and listed among the top ten, US-based shows by @FriezeOfficial . Catch the Los Angeles debut of ‘SECONDARY’ at Regen Projects this summer, beginning June 1. Image: Production still from Matthew Barney, ‘SECONDARY,' 2023. On view at Kunstverein in Hamburg through April 14, 2024, ‘Bühnenbilder’ surveys Silke Otto-Knapp’s formal innovations as a painter. The presentation includes depictions of theater, dance, film, and opera by the artist from the last decade, as well as ‘Versammlung,’ Otto-Knapp’s final cycle of multi-paneled, freestanding paintings. Rendered in high-contrast, greyscale watercolors, the works in ‘Bühnenbilder’ reflect on formal and thematic questions concerning the representation of the performing arts within the medium of painting. 1–6: Installation view of Silke Otto-Knapp, ‘Bühnenbilder,’ Kunstverein in Hamburg, January 27 – April 14, 2024. ‘OF & ABOUT POSTERS,’ the most comprehensive presentation of the Lawrence Weiner Poster Archive to date, is currently on view at the Vancouver Art Gallery through August 25, 2024. Featuring more than 250 posters made between 1965 and 2021, the exhibition is complemented by selections from Weiner’s editioned works, publications, and audio projects. Taken together, these diverse materials exemplify the various ways that the artist’s work and ideas have circulated around the globe. Although Weiner described himself primarily as a sculptor, he departed from the conventional associations of the term in the late 1960s, defining his principal medium as “language + the material referred to.” Since then, his precise, poetic texts have appeared on the surfaces of art museums and galleries, as well as on posters, books, and in song lyrics. Find more info at the link in our bio. Image: Lawrence Weiner during the installation of ‘The Vancouver Art Gallery Archive of Lawrence Weiner Posters,’ 125 Jahre Hochschule für Angewandte Kunst, Vienna, 1993. Alberta Whittle’s debut presentation with the gallery, ‘Learning a new punctuation for hope in times of disaster,’ opens today at Regen Projects. Join us tonight for an opening reception from 6 – 8 pm. Blending tender portraiture with more abstract passages and symbols, Alberta’s paintings reflect her own lived and embodied experience, as well as her desire to cultivate moments of rest, reflection, and kinship—both with and for others. The exhibition presents Alberta’s 2022 film, ‘Lagareh – The Last Born’ for the first time in North America, following its debut at the 59th Venice Biennale. Shot across several countries, including Scotland, England, Barbados, Sierra Leone, and Italy, the film weaves documentary alongside more lyrical, esoteric sequences, inheriting a filmic and artistic tradition that is both experimental and essayistic. 1, 3, 5: Installation view of Alberta Whittle, ‘Learning a new punctuation for hope in times of disaster,' Regen Projects, Los Angeles, March 16 – May 18, 2024.
