MAY 7/ Night 2 / The inputted value is unusual (WORKSHOP + PERFORMANCE)
Our second night of What Is: noncompliance is a two-parter on playing and building with disobedience through transmission workshops and performances. Think sonic liberation.
Part 1 is THE WORKSHOP, an intro to DIY Transmission & Radio art. Facilitated by Auto Feeder, this workshop considers the untapped potential of radio frequencies beyond traditional broadcasting, from pirate transmissions to off-grid mesh networks. Participants build their own mini FM transmitter and take it home. The session ends with a live performance, where attendees will use their transmitters to contribute to an experimental sound composition by temporarily occupying the airwaves.
Part 2 is THE PERFORMANCE with Auto Feeder, beloved icon Rrose, and Parkdale Pirate Radio: Auto Feeder and workshop participants perform their transmission piece live, followed by underground worldwide techno legend and transdisciplinary artist Rrose performing an unamplified gong piece by James Tenney, titled “Having Never Written a Note for Percussion." From 9-11 PM, Parkdale Pirate Radio broadcasts a renegade edition of DISCO 3000 on 87.5 FM.

Edging the Unscratchable Digital Itch, the 2025 IA Current Exhibition, explores restless sensations, traces of a system built upon an attention economy that exploits attention by promising relief it cannot deliver.
New media artists Sarah Boo, Axl Le @axlleyi , Michael Luo @anything_4_cv , Sophia Oppel @sophia_oppel , Iris QU Xiaoyu @iris_xiaoyu & Niles Fromm @nilesfromm , and David Yu @scissorkick offer tactics that edge rather than scratch. The exhibition veils vision with abstraction, slowing information exchange, staging conditional performance, challenging reward loops, misusing technical tools, and stretching AI’s generative flatness into durational inquiry. Almost counterintuitive to our consumer habit, 2025 IA Current Curator Lingxiang Wu invites us to interrupt fast consumption by sitting with these artworks and with ourselves.

Cacophony is a concert series focusing on new and improvised collaborations in electronic music, noise and sound art. Two new duos will be formed each night and the audience will have the rare chance to observe their very early stages of sonic collaboration. Cacophony is the sound of new ideas being formed on the spot. Whether melodic or atonal, it is informed by the unique perspectives of two artists seeking common ground. Through cacophony, connection on the fringe is made un-ignorable.
