What does a local intelligence look and feel like?
We imagine it as a whispering voice in old tape machines, its sound getting scrambled while reciting distant memories πΈοΈ
See the first installation of our work, Machine Whispers @ 32 Liscar Street, Toronto, and listen to what the voice remembers of this historical place

Found a Hermit Thrush singing this crazy polyphonic tune while testing custom field recording mics on a rainy day in Vermont.
The mics are designed around Primo EM272 omni capsules housed in solid machined aluminum. Thanks @landscape.fm & @eccoditto for the zoom recorder used to test π

Solid walnut with paint inlay, 2022
~~~
After spending to much time on the computer for work recently, this table started as an excuse to work on a project by hand and completely away from the screen.
During the design process, I focused on spending more time with the material and less time planning ahead. I started with a rough sketch and forced myself to not plan any dimensions or angles beforehand and only decided on cuts and measurements while working. The top is made from carved walnut with an acrylic paint inlay, and the legs from walnut turned on a wood lathe.
Inspired by the light fittings of Gino Sarfatti, the Castiglioni brothers, and other mid-century Italian designers, IFL-01 is the first in a series of lighting pieces designed around simple geometric forms and industrial materials. IFL-01 is a one-off piece, hand-built using biochar & cement mix, TIG welded steel, an LED bulb, and a built-in dimmer switch.
