In collaboration with @interaccessto AVANT MUTEK will host the artist Marko Cindric presenting FIAT. Fiat Godot game engine, live microphone In this interactive audiovisual installation, participants are invited to make sounds into a microphone, the peaks and valleys of their waveforms shaping islands emerging from a projected virtual ocean. A lone seagull soars over the scene, shifting its path to the contours of the new terrain, reminding us that the worlds we create are not uninhabited, but shared among a rich web of kin both human and more-than. Marko Cindric is a new media artist and researcher interested in the overlooked presuppositions and ideological residues that inadvertently shape discussions on the climate crisis. Throughout his research, he grapples with a central tension: can our digital technologies be emancipated from the ecocidal military-industrial paradigm from which they emerge? Cindric wields human-made systems as his materials in the interest of redirecting attention to, and rebuilding kinship with, the natural and living ones that inspired their invention. As such, relationality, impact, and emergence are recurring motifs within his practice. Unfolding across two rooms within @mooi.studios ’s intimate warehouse space in Toronto, the event features a carefully curated lineup of artists and aesthetics that embody MUTEK’s exploratory spirit. What does your body feel like in the times of Bryan Johnson’s “bio-measurements” and Neuralink Corp? Moving through media analysis, curatorial research, and creative nonfiction, the keynote explores the fantasies and realities of the modular cyborg body, a politics of disposability, the necropolitics of labour, and the role of digital technologies in the production of selfhood. This event is hosted in support of the Vector Festival Gamemaking Residency and is open to all. The keynote speaker will join the event remotely over Zoom. In true cyborg spirit, participants are invited to join online or at an in-person watch party at InterAccess. About the Speaker 🦾 Casper Sutton-Fosman is a curator, artist, and academic based in Tiohtià:ke/Mooniyang/Montreal. She is burdened by the urgent need to restore, preserve, and disseminate indigenous ways of being and knowing. About the Gamemaking Residency 🦾 'Where are your guts?' is a video game residency supporting the development of conceptual games, ending in a public showcase opportunity at Vector Festival. With technical and curatorial support, gamemakers in residence explore technologies pushed to the forefront of dystopian imaginings and the warnings against them, asking how we could create symbiotic systems for the good of our bodies, our ecosystems, and our self-actualizations.
