Big thanks to @unclimatechange for leading a roundtable at COP28 on Entertainment and Culture for Climate Action (ECCA), creating spaces for cultural leaders and the entertainment industry to come together. In these settings, it's crucial to push for concrete action and convey the urgency to accelerate climate efforts. Speaking truth to power can be tough, but it's essential. So many industry leaders have spent three years developing a framework for our industry, yet it hasn't been ratified despite 80% support from ECCA members. Check out the latest draft at www.ecca.earth. As a social impact practitioner and climate activist, it's frustrating when counterparts drag their feet. Strengthening global collaborations is key to building a united front against extraction and corporate greed in our industry. Kudos to frontline community leaders who prioritize integrity over PR. Our future can't hinge on corporate interests. Let's set a timeline and get to work – no time to waste! At COP, let's use the remaining conference time to act, not delay. We're here to turn initiatives like ECCA into a robust framework for impact, transparency, and accountability. We have a unique opportunity and a historic responsibility to collaborate and give our best. We may differ in views and approaches, but we share one planet and a common goal: protect it at all costs. šŸ“ø Huge thanks to @midianinja and @oliverninja for capturing these moments of resistance šŸ’™

Been sitting with this for a moment before posting because there’s been so much to process and unpack… Last month in Marrakech, alongside 50+ incredible people from across the world, we delivered the first draft of the Culture Global Stocktake for Climate Action (CGST) šŸ’Œ For a week, we gathered cultural practitioners, artists, climate advocates, local organizers, and leading organizations to collectively build a roadmap for culture-based climate action. We reclaimed our role in policymaking and learned from each other’s perspectives and inputs. It was an intense process, but one I’m deeply grateful for. I’ve learned so much, and I’m honestly in awe of what this movement can accomplish ✨ None of this would have been possible without the incredible support and hard work of the @entertainmentculturepavilion team. We’re also so thankful to the organizations who financially enabled this Accelerator—we don’t take that generosity for granted. Thank you to the Youth Climate Justice Fund, British Council, and Goethe Institute for helping make this possible. This process has only just begun, and I’m really excited to invite others to take part in the next draft iterations of the Culture Global Stocktake. Our goal is to deliver a finalized version by COP31, with ongoing in-person and virtual consultations along the way. If you’re interested in contributing or partnering in this process, you can learn more at 🌱 šŸ“ø Photo credit to the incredible @siddiqui_media !

The Culture Global Stocktake for Climate Action is gathering input from artists, cultural workers, communicators, researchers, and organizations around the world šŸ“£. āœļø Submit your written input via the link in bio! Your contribution will be synthesized and fed into a collective process connected to the UN climate system šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡³. The structure mirrors the official UN Global Stocktake – so that culture can speak the same policy language and be meaningfully included in climate decision-making. šŸ”— cultureglobalstocktake.com (or via the link in bio)

Over 670 people have already registered for the Culture Global Stocktake orientation webinar. Why? Because this is the first time culture is being formally assessed inside the climate system - and if you care about narrative power, art, storytelling, behaviour change, or cultural policy, this affects you. šŸ—“ February 23 šŸ•” 5PM CET In this session, we’ll explain: – What the Culture Global Stocktake actually is – How the process works – How your work can feed into UN climate policy – And how to get involved in consultations Link in @entertainmentculturepavilion bio to register!

This interactive workshop at @cop30nobrasil explored how climate change is reshaping our health and wellbeing - and how storytelling can help us respond, adapt, and heal. Participants reflected on their lived experiences, then created short videos and narratives for the @healthyplanetnowfilm impact campaign. As @xiyebeara reminded us, ā€œthe health of the planet is intrinsically linked to the health of our communities, our descendants, our stories.ā€ Supported by @wellcometrust through ā€œA Culture of Climate and Healthā€, six programmes throughout COP30 dedicated to exploring the intersection between climate, health, and cultural advocacy. #HealthyPlanetNow

There’s so much to unpack from these last few intense weeks in Brazil (both before and during COP30) that I honestly don’t even know where to begin. From the Amazonian rain to the heat, the blackouts, the overpriced lunches, the day Gunjan and I got mistakenly de-badged, and yes… even a fire to top it all off. A whole saga. So many memories I’m still processing. This has been one of the most rewarding and hardest things I’ve ever done. Mobilizing resources, supporting our teams, and pulling off a 10-day program with more than 70 events was no small task. But it was another reminder of the resilience that youth and cultural practitioners bring to the climate movement. I’m endlessly grateful for my colleagues at @entertainmentculturepavilion and for our partners at @climateliveglobal and @climatelivebrasil . As for the negotiations… the outcomes didn’t meet my expectations… or the bare minimum needed to stay on track for a livable planet. To get there it will take massive mobilization and real, targeted policy action. And even still then we have to sustain and fight for real systemic change. If we want a roadmap to phase out fossil fuels, and if we want culture to finally appear in the policy texts, it’s going to require even more hard work, coordination, and coalition-building across countries and movements. This is it. On a personal note, I’ve learned so much from this experience. I’m grateful I got to be in BelĆ©m three times this year, to feel the local culture, and to witness the magic at the heart of the Amazon. Brazil has pushed culture-based climate action to a whole new level, and it’s been an honor to watch it happen in real time. Behind these COPs and conferences are real people doing real work (often without pay or recognition) moving mountains behind the scenes and fighting for climate justice every single day. Knowing that gives me hope. There are people who simply won’t give up. We’re not going anywhere 🩷

Today I spoke alongside my colleagues at COP30 about something that has been weighing heavily on me and on so many people across our culture and climate community. After years of work from hundreds of cultural organizations, youth movements, Indigenous leaders, artists, and storytellers, culture is still missing from the Presidency’s latest draft text. Even after two thematic days dedicated to culture here in BelĆ©m and being included in the COP30 Action Agenda. It feels frustrating, especially when we have the data from UNESCO and the IPCC that shows how culture, heritage, memory, and storytelling directly shape adaptation, resilience, and behaviour. And especially after everything the Entertainment + Culture Pavilion alongside Climate Live has poured into the last ten days. But I meant it when I said this: we may be burned out, but we are not defeated. Our Pavilion was literally covered in ashes this morning and still the work continues. Culture belongs in climate policy. It belongs in the text. And we won’t stop asking for it, here or at the next COP. We have the evidence. We have the stories. And we have a global community behind this 🩷

With #COP30 just around the corner, we’re reflecting on the seeds planted for strengthening culture-based climate action at #MONDIACULT 2025. 🌱 @unesco From hosting a self-organized Global Ethical Stocktake for Culture-Based Climate Action, to witnessing the signing of the Barcelona Declaration by the Group of Friends for Culture-Based Climate Action and working with leading organizations to hold an official MONDIACULT side event, we saw that culture isn’t just part of the climate solution — it’s where the solutions begin. āļø We can’t wait to reconnect with the friends and partners we worked with in Barcelona on the ground in BelĆ©m for COP30. When we work together, our impact spreads even further. šŸ’Ŗ A huge thanks to šŸ‘‰ @marceleolivv @cop30nobrasil @minc @margarethmenezes @tba_21 @fundaciomiro @icomosofficial @climateheritagenetwork šŸŽ„Videography: @yusef.ajy šŸŽ¬Editing: @ruizrnicol
