100 Candleholders draws inspiration from JB’s 1981 exhibition 100 Plates Plus, where he playfully expanded a prolific form. Here, each artist brings a distinct approach to material, process, and the interplay between aesthetics and function. 100 Candleholders is on view at Blunk Space through March 28.

"My candle holder is more of a vessel, it offers shelter for the candles and casts images of native flowers in surrounding areas."

"While at my Kohler pottery residency, I became enthralled by the mold making process. The candlestick holder had an emotional weight to it, buried in its plaster half, that I felt was more meaningful than actually casting just the candlestick holder so I decided to make a mold of a mold... The fact that even a mold has a life expectancy and a death was something I wanted to capture."

"A brutalist, cast brass bracket supports a refined, glass oil-candle. I sought to find a balance in these contrasting materials… the wrought meeting the delicate and technical. Whereas the fiberglass wick is contemporary, the flame is undoubtedly archetypal and primal."
