EARTH ANGEL | 500T 16mm
“We gave ourselves one roll of 16mm, 400 feet, 11 minutes. There is freedom in the forced intentionality of film. It also made for a tighter shoot, when the film ran out, we wrapped. We almost cancelled the shoot because it started raining, but we noticed the reflections on the wet ground made the light glow on film, and we decided to go for it.
Cinematographers and colorists usually avoid purples (as Patti Bellantoni warns in If It’s Purple, Someone’s Gonna Die), but when the sky opened up into that violet haze, and with our subject being an Angel, we decided to lean into it completely.”
