$10. This is what I started this series for. Not just to reinvigorate my love of shooting, but to show people how accessible it is. This is a toy - Completely liberated from most any control - you can’t focus, you can’t adjust the aputure (brightness). You cant worry about any of the technical aspects of photography, only composition. Just point it at something interesting. How freeing! Thanks Oreo lens!

Part 5: Soviet Lens! (Helios 44-2 58mm)
IYKYK—this isn’t so much a weird lens; it’s just an infamous lens I’ve wanted to play with for ages. This lens has a crazy story: it was created when the USSR seized control of the Carl Zeiss lens plant in East Germany post-WWII. I picked this bad boy up in Kyoto, and it’s got a really distinctive look, with the bokeh (out-of-focus-background-circles) becoming all swirly around the edges. 9/10 love her.

Part 4: Baby Lens! (Pentax 110 18mm f2.7)
I took this lil fella everywhere - London, San Francisco, France and back New York. It was made for a tiny 80’s point-and-shoot film camera and looked absolutely ridiculous on mine. The lens is fixed wide open, so it was super bright—meaning I couldn’t use it on hugely sunny days—but I do love how sharp it is in the middle and how distorted it is on the edges. 7/10 - bonus points for how silly it looked.

Part 3: Fisheye Lens! (Lensbaby Circular Fisheye 5.8mm)
Yeah I put 2 beat switches in there and what. I love this lens so much I wanna base my whole personality around it. This lens looks like a peephole POV and made everything feel like a skate film. It’s 180-degrees - meaning it constantly got my feet in shot. But - being so wide I rarely had to worry about the focus. This made it perfect for just pointing and shooting.

Part 2: Bendy Lens! (Lensbaby Spark 2.0 with Sweet 50 Optic)
This bendy lens, or ‘tilt shift’ lens, allows you to move the area of focus around, distorting anything not in focus. Meanwhile you also have to squeeze the lens to various degrees to focus. I had a love hate relationship with this lens - it’s pretty difficult to capture quick moments when you have to squeeze the lens and move it around to get it sharp. I did like how everything looks like a fever dream but I’ll be honest I was glad to move onto the next lens.
