I’ve played a lot of kits that I love over the years, but none feel and sound quite like this RFM kit. A couple more grooves from new @secretandwhisperofficial material I’m working through on the kit. Part of process of writing drum parts through midi is adapting the sticking and feel to the kit. It’s alway a little different than you think, but that’s what makes it interesting. I haven’t been playing my kit as much lately, as we’ve been really focused on finishing writing music for the new @secretandwhisperofficial album we’ve been working on - which means I’ve been spending more time on the computer programming drums and keyboards writing/records synths, etc. It’s always “fun” (and humbling) getting on the kit and working out what you’ve written for songs and here’s a little snippet of the process. #sabiancymbals_official #evansdrumheads #canopusdrums #secretandwhisper
I had the first session with my brand new Canopus RFM kit and I couldn’t be happier! Finally, I’ve achieved the sound I’ve had in my head for so long, and the results in the studio are outstanding. Not only do they feel INCREDIBLE under the hands and feet, they look and sound just as good. Just finished a whole bunch of songs for @katerinanicolemusic (which will join ‘Crystalline’ on the record) and one for my guy @a2tragedy - so happy with how everything came out. The @canopusdrums Type R Bullet sounded INCREDIBLE under the mics and I can’t wait to use it for more projects. As always, @sabiancymbals all around. For this recording I was stoked to use the 21” HHX Legacy ride as my right side crash, as it sounds wonderful but gets out of the when you need it to. HH TS session ride for amazing tone and clarity and a mix of HHX Complex, AAX, and Stratus for the rest. Excited to share the results when they are ready!
I feel privileged and honoured to share that I’m officially a part of the @canopusdrums family! I’ve been a massive fan of everything they do for a long time, and I can’t thank Nori and everyone at Canopus enough for welcoming me in. They were kind of enough to ship this 14x6.5 Type R Bullet snare to me and it thankfully arrived the night before we flew out for @furnacefest The first time I played it was on stage for our set and I couldn’t believe how incredible it sounded! Happy Monday everyone! In preparing for @furnacefest (which is less than 3 weeks away), we’ve spent countless hours revisiting our songs to build a set list. @jerd_desu and I have spent literal DAYS at @oodelally_recordings (his studio) redoing all of synth/loops for the songs we are playing from GWW and Teenage Fantasy, and I’m so excited for you all to hear how some of the songs have been modified to better express the emotional intensity we wanted to convey. Part of revisiting these songs is spending time playing them and updating how I approach playing them now vs. how I recorded them 15 years ago. When I recorded the video for “Pixie” I last minute ran “Silver Mountain” based on what I’ve been rehearsing, and I hope you enjoy. The ending is definitely a little different from the recorded version. This will forever be one of my favourite @secretandwhisperofficial songs we ever wrote. It was a “b-side” from Teenage Fantasy and a Japan exclusive when we released the album at the time.
