Nestled along the tranquil Thames riverbank, our new glazed timber boathouse is beginning to take shape — a quiet celebration of craftsmanship, natural materials, and waterside living.
Framed in warm timber and wrapped in generous panes of glass, the structure invites the landscape inward. The shifting reflections of water, sky, and trees become part of the architecture itself, blurring the boundary between shelter and shoreline. Inside, sunlight pours across the workspace as each beam, joint, and board is carefully placed, echoing the honesty of traditional building methods with a contemporary touch.
Outside, a compact crane helps lift the larger glazing elements into position, a modern companion to this hand-crafted process. The river flows steadily just beyond, reminding us why we build with care: to create spaces that feel rooted, gentle, and connected to their environment.
This boathouse will soon house water-centric amenities and moments of quiet pause — a place where craft meets nature, and where every reflection tells part of the story.

“I loved the house the first time I saw it, but was struck that the garden side return was barely used and the kitchen was narrow and dark. Thanks to Richard and Robert, we were able to extend and rebuild the space into a generous kitchen filled with natural light. The sloping glass roof bounces sunlight across the room. When it became clear that we’d need metal supports given the sheer size of the pane, MJA turned that into a stylish design feature which only enhances the warmth of the space. The kitchen has become my favourite room in the house.”
