After and Before . End usage is such an important consideration in image editing. If this image of a newly refurbished office space was intended for the developer's marketing material, then my approach would have been different. Aside from dropping some people into the composition, I would have probably given it a warmer feel. As it was, the end user was the architect and the impressive overhead walkway was the real star feature of this composition. Careful selection of that item made it possible to refine its color and luminosity for best effect and also to remove the warm color casts elsewhere from the interior lighting. The aim was for a crisp look to really set off the walkway against the background. What I enjoy about image editing is that the RAW material is neutral, and there are so many different directions one can take in post; the job is to make a communicative image statement which answers the clients' requirements.
Before and After : the difference between a "standard" process with global adjustments alone and a more in-depth treatment: with carefully targeted masking, warm colour casts from mixed lighting can be neutralised, views enhanced and fabrics softened out. Their eminences Jagger and Bowie, meanwhile, benefit from some de-haze! Don't settle for "standard" processing: let's collaborate to make your images sing! š

Natural light for interiors photography is beautiful but not without its limitations⦠sometimes window sources are so large in relation to smaller items and features on set that their texture and form can suffer: that broad āblanketā of light is just too engulfing. Reducing its spread can be achieved by blacking out windows or over-riding the natural light with flash sources, but that can eat up a lot of time when one is under pressure to cover multiple rooms. Using in-computer adjustments, we can mimic the effect of harder light, which reveals form and texture, while retaining detail where required. We can also cut down on the reflections and flare sometimes caused by natural light scatter. Such tools need to be used sensitively, of course, to ensure the photographerās intended vision or āstatementā is respected. But there is much we can do to bring a far more ātailoredā look to your imagery. Why not get in touch and see where we could take your images?
Some before and after examples of my image processing and retouching work. Architectural and interiors imagery always requires careful control of tonal and colour rendition; stray light and colour casts are a given for location shooting and need to be controlled. Itās my happy task to work with all these issues and to sort out any retouching required! If youāre a photographer looking to outsource your image processing, please DM me : Iāll forward a drop link and will process a selection of your images free of charge. Processing a living room image : please swipe to see the version with a basic process created in Lightroom before refinements in Photoshop, plus some of the masks created to apply colour and tonal adjustments to selective zones of the image: removing colour casts on different surfaces, like the ceiling, floor and coffee table, is an essential part of the process. Itās these highly specific selections which go towards ensuring colour fidelity and tonal control in the finished result. To watch a video of the complete process (shortened to just 5.5 minutes!) please head over to my YouTube channel via link in bio or search for "simaxpix" on Youtube.
Friday Fix:
These images show two buildings with impressive rooflines. But the combination of passing clouds and the tops of trees which appear behind them reduces their impact. Thankfully, skies can be replaced in post-production and other adjustments made to create much clearer compositions. Can I invite you to take a look at your project images and if you think that similar interventions might help, do please get in touch!
Window Pulls? We love āem! When a view plays an important part in a composition, itās often necessary to mask in a separate, darker exposure or rendering of the scene, which suits the exterior. Carefully creating a clipping path around windows, especially when there are multiple panes to select or plants to mask out, isnāt everyoneās idea of fun! As part of the image optimisation service I offer to both photographers and businesses in the property sector, I can pull in window views for a natural and pleasing effect. Please visit for more info or, better still, DM me with your requirements.
