…I want to know if you can see beauty even when it is not pretty every day. And if you can source your own life from its presence. I want to know if you can live with failure, yours and mine, and still stand at the edge of the lake and shout to the silver of the full moon, 'Yes.'
…It doesn’t interest me where or what or with whom you have studied. I want to know what sustains you from the inside when all else falls away…
…I want to know if you can be alone with yourself and if you truly like the company you keep in the empty moments.
- excerpt from “The Invitation” by Oriah Mountain Dreamer thank you @xitlalic for sharing this poem.
☀️a reflection 1 week before my 37th year☀️
🤍
today, @xitlalic & @rodrioscr were interviewed at @artspacehp for their current exhibition, and as the camera was filming the exterior of the building, I wanted to smile and cry all at the same time as I so often do - filled with emotions of all the love, the work and the dedication I share in this space.
Despite the chaos in our streets of Huntington Park and our SELA community month after month, and so much uncertainty we have been feeling all year, aquí estamos….
These photos aren’t even a full year of everything we have accomplished and all the times we have gathered…
I take a deep breath in appreciation of the sweat and tears and every. single. person I get to hug on a weekly basis.
❤️
