Hi there — We are Slotted Spoon Stories, a duo of creatives! Robert Ross Parker, a writer, and Rebecca Scheckman, a visual storyteller, have joined forces to craft a picture book that’s completely AI-free. The Great Pumpkin Rescue is a labor of love, with hand-drawn illustrations in color pencil and a story woven through traditional oral storytelling. As we work together, our drawings and words have evolved in tandem, shaping each other in unexpected ways. You asked to see the process, and we’re excited to share it with you! We’re currently refining our drawings and writing, and we’ll give you a sneak peek into our creative journey. #freedrawn #crowdfunding #drawingprocess #indieauthor #slowgrown
@bob___wilson ’s #mobydick @bam_brooklyn Just delightful. There is a thing where I find this kind of work simultaneously thrilling and also a bit silly. Which in turn delights me…..
I kinda wanna do some non-Wilson material Wilson style! Have an idea, kept me up last night, stay tuned!
The story of The Great Pumpkin Rescue began with an epic family adventure. 🚲 Writer Robert Ross Parker was inspired by the journey of hauling his four-year-old daughter, Zoe, across the country on a bike trip alongside his wife, Theresa. As he struggled to tow Zoe over the 2,000 miles, he crafted the story orally, inventing and retelling the tales over and over until they were perfectly refined. This labor of love, born from a commitment to family and the power of storytelling, is the heart of our debut children’s book. #TheGreatPumpkinRescue #StoryOrigin #FamilyTrip #PictureBook #SlottedSpoonStories

Hello! This is Rebecca Scheckman and I wanted to share a bit of my journey illustrating The Great Pumpkin Rescue. Using color pencil on tinted toned brown paper for 18 pages of hand drawn full compositions. Along with several standalone detail drawings. The process has taken me roughly 3 years to complete while pregnant and in postpartum and in between caring for my now 24 month son.
As we begin to ramp up for the crowdfunding campaign we are in process of tweaking language and drawings to work better together and our collaboration has us actively engaged. WOW! do we believe in this project.
We are in a state of flow using our skills and experience gained over the many years in our own industries and combining them to craft dynamic stories while engaging community. We already can see how this project has ignited so much more potential for our creative expression and we hope you’ll follow along the journey and share our latest project!
