Happy birthday to my dear sister Lena! No matter where she goes she brings the party with her! She is such a huge part of my life and I’m so glad we have each other on this journey. Things are dark and grim everywhere you look, but Lena is a master at bringing others through it and onto the bright side with a laugh or a song or a funny story. I am the proud recipient of four decades of those laughs and songs and stories, all of them steadying and preserving me to this day. Here’s to a true leader of dogs and people, a sun spirit, a chef, and a lover of burps and Weird Al. To my sister!

Voting for #ZohranMamdani for Mayor of New York City in the first ranked position. No matter what the future holds we have incredibly difficult challenges ahead in the city and we want compassion, hope, and community care to lead us through it. Lets goooooooooo #Vote #nyc

Got to share the stage with some truly wonderful people for a reading of Saint Joan by George Bernard Shaw this week. Bravo to @davidreedstaller and @gingoldgroup for bringing us all together and @lilyriopelle for directing such a beautiful evening. Shaw’s work continues to shock and delight! Zoom in and get as starstruck as I was to be in this group of legends…!

Congratulations to the company of the OPEN YOUR EARS READING of THE PEONY LANTERN, by Devin E. Haqq! On Friday, May 9, we shared THE PEONY LANTERN with its first audience in an OPEN YOUR EARS Reading. Fiasco’s OPEN YOUR EARS initiative provides space and time for the ensemble to focus on the language of a piece before culminating its exploration in a first public reading. Historically we have done this with classical or firmly established plays. Brand new and still in development, Fiasco is thrilled to support Devin E. Haqq’s THE PEONY LANTERN, and to have brought it to your ears. (From left to right) Gibson Frazier, Paco Tolson, Amara Leonard, Tom Holcomb, Kelly Letourneau, Adrianna Mitchell, Devin E. Haqq, Paul L. Coffey, and Madison Lane.

Last night @fiasco_theater launched a new play initiative called Open Your Ears that brings our community into the room early in the development process—in the case of The Peony Lantern by @devin_e_haqq , an open workshop of the first draft. Devin’s play is hugely ambitious and exciting. I’m in awe of his courage, his vision, and the joyfulness in his process. The chance to play with so many old and new friends also filled my soul. It reminded me how much I love being around the table as, line by line, beat by beat, we conjure these shows into being. Hats off to @pcffy who also further stretched his musical and directorial wings. #newplays #newwork #fiasco #nyc #theater

These NYU actors are wonderful and I was so lucky to have a chance to close out the semester teaching them. It was a character study class, but as with all things it ended up being about taking control of your destiny and making big swings. May we all have their boldness to foster empathy in this world and in our own work. A huge thank you to superstar teacher and wave-maker @arts.directs for the opportunity. (I could not find Joel or Gandi on here)

Adding a new school to the teaching side of my career—professor of acting at NYU’s Steinhardt School! We’re deep diving into one of my all time favorites: kimber lee’s exquisite play “to the yellow house”. The thematic resonance is already shaking the room. #NYU #acting #characterstudy
