For his first residential project in the US, Danish design star David Thulstrup brought Scandinavian style and a Zen sensibility to a historic San Francisco house. “It was about creating clarity and calmness through a very detailed, minimal language,” says Thulstrup, who incorporated the clients’ passion for Asian art to create a tranquil urban retreat.

At the edge of Wotruba Church, a structure that feels more like a composition than a building.
Designed by Fritz Wotruba, the church is built from 152 irregular concrete blocks — each placed with a sculptor’s mindset rather than an architect’s logic. The result is raw, quiet, and surprisingly human.
Light moves differently here. It slips in between the volumes, softening the weight of the concrete and turning the space into something almost fragile.
A place where mass and light find a delicate balance.
