“It is an essential truth about women’s football: from the professional game down to the grassroots level, from the players to the fans to the reporters covering the sport, women’s football is super, super gay,” @ro_hew writes in our Issue 34 cover story ‘They’re Lesbians, Stacey.’
From transparent relationships to the in-jokes of online linguistics, teams called Ex-Girlfriend FC getting sponsored by brands like @uberlube to podcasts called Match of the Gay—the women’s game is profoundly queer.
So, Whippets FC centre half and writer Rosie Hewitson has written the ultimate exploration of the silliness and seriousness of this existing in women’s football culture.
For the cover shoot, we commissioned @louisbever to capture the beauty and brilliance of Rosie’s piece by shooting couple @oceanlewis and @tamsinturner12 in AC Milan and Inter kits.
Cover two of four. Out now.
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved companion, Coco “Girltown” Cook-Ebbatson-Garland-Gray-Hewitson (2007 - 2024).
She leaves behind her doting grandchildren Ben, Ivo and Margaret.
‘London Shopfronts’ came out in September and I didn’t even post about it on main (promoting my work makes me feel physically ill!) I had a lot of fun working on it with @joelholland_studio and @gitlowww , and it’s always a thrill seeing it out and about.
Went to Sydney in August! Ate some great food, met my gal Tazuni, took a million photos of the big bridge, watched Sam Kerr score a stunner, hung out at Bondi beach, wandered round the gorgeous opera house, and briefly became the planet’s biggest football hooligan when Mazza saved that pen. Worra FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 it was, by the way.
Stunning legend and minor Stoke Newington celebrity Princess ‘Baby Boy’ Hewitson departed planet earth earlier this month, presumably upon discovering that the celestial realm has way more neighbours to harass for additional snacc. He liked plants, tuna, Music For Cats, drinking water from the bath, watching Spurs (???) and going into other people’s houses. He hated closed windows, foxes and Wanstead Veterinary Hospital. Most of the time he seemed indifferent to my presence in his home, but when he was sick he slept on the pillow next to me. He was my best pal, and the house feels very empty without him </3
*Doing a work-related post on main I’m so, so sorry*
Our newsletter Out Here turns 1 today.
Since the Time Out print magazine closed last June we’ve produced 171 incredibly silly and hopefully at least vaguely useful newsletters about everything from stinkpipes to pub pets. It’s been hard work, but it’s also been a laugh.
Cheers to @k_mackertich for letting me take the reins, @bryanmayesdotcom , @818fpv and @jesshandphotography for the design chops and loads of great original photography, our dearly departed sub @chriswaywell for the quality control (RIP lol) and all the talented writers who’ve contributed.
As we say in the business: BOSH.
P.S. Scroll to the end to see a dog pulling a pint.
