🚨 We only have a few days to push back. @govkathyhochul and NY Senators are trying to weaken a key environmental law in New York (SEQRA). These changes could: -Limit local decision-making -Allow high-density development in flood-prone or contaminated areas -Encourage sprawl -Cause irreversible environmental impacts to habitat -Strain water and sewer systems Big changes like this shouldn’t be rushed through without public input. We can’t let this happen behind closed doors. Speak out now to protect clean water and our environment, and promote sustainable development. ☎️ Call Gov. Hochul today to voice to demand SEQRA be protected: (518) 474-8390 ✍️ or take action at our link in bio

Today is Endangered Species Day, and the fight to save the Atlantic sturgeon is more urgent than ever. Listed as endangered since 2012, these ancient fish have roamed our waters for over 200 million years, yet their numbers have fallen due to overfishing, habitat loss, and bycatch from commercial fishing operations. We’ve taken action. Riverkeeper partnered with @delawareriverkeeper to file a lawsuit to force NY, NJ, and DE to stop the illegal capture and killing of endangered Atlantic sturgeon once and for all. Sturgeon have the law on their side. Now we need the states to act. Learn more about our work to defend endangered species at link in bio. #EndangeredSpeciesDay #AtlanticSturgeon #Riverkeeper #EndangeredSpecies #WildlifeConservation

Our work to protect and restore the Hudson is a team effort. Among many key initiatives, together we: ➡️ Hold GE accountable for cleanup of the PCBs that turned 200 miles of the Hudson into a superfund site ➡️Protect drinking water supplies from toxic PFAS “forever chemical” contamination ➡️Work diligently on flooding prevention and response policies that protect the ecosystem and all the life that depends on it A generous donor has offered to match all gifts made through our special Earth Month Match donation page, as funds are available. Your involvement and support are essential to our work. Join us in defending the river: riverkeeper.org/earthday (link in bio).

In a single generation the Hudson River went from an industrial dumping ground to a swimmable, fishable, drinkable river. 315 miles of a comeback story. Tens of thousands of people get their drinking water from it. People swim in it, fish in it, kayak in it. So @Johnmulaney , how about you dive in with us?

Small fish. Big role. 🐟 River herring (alewife + blueback) keep the ecosystem running, feeding countless species across the food web. They’re plankton-eaters, filtering tiny zooplankton as they swim. Ocean life ➡️ river return ➡️ repeat 🔁 River herring migrate home to the Hudson River and its tributaries each spring to spawn, then their young grow up in the estuary before heading back to the ocean. 🪚 Nicknamed “sawbellies” for their sharp belly scales, they’re built to survive the journey upstream. But both are in trouble, facing pollution, dams, and habitat loss. River herring numbers are considered depleted by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission. Spot the difference: Alewife = bigger eye, deeper body, lighter interior, prefers calmer waters Blueback = smaller eye, sleeker body, darker interior, prefers faster streams 📢 📆🎏Have you heard the herring are coming? Mark your calendar for Saturday, June 20 and join Riverkeeper’s Fish Migration Celebration! Together we’ll honor the small but mighty fish that sustain our ecosystem.
