Thinking about this work today as I was updating the website - 🪑🥘 I had the privilege of creating and performing 𝒮𝑜𝒻𝓇𝑒𝒽 𝒻𝑜𝓇 𝒯𝓌𝑜 a year ago and I still think about it … it was deeply important for me as I continue to understand and uncover the tensions in my identity - thanks to @noabrons and @critical.distance for your support & allowing me to make this work. Thanks to @milesrufelds for capturing the performance thru film (that I have yet to finalize) 😬

“Reza Nik’s sofreh for two references both Iranian food and drink carts and ‘Sofreh’, a loose term translated to a textile on which food is served but that often functions as a shorthand for various preparations, practices, ceremonies and rituals. This improvisational performance is mediated through a roving structure that considers the spatial facets of food and feasting as narrated through diasporic and intergenerational experiences and memories.”

Meet Reza Nik (@rezaniik ) – licensed architect, artist, educator, and founding Director of @sheeep.studio .
Through HATCH (Housing Affordability Tactics for Creative Humans), and “888” a collaborative research project with SHEEEP.school and Younger Than Beyoncé Collective (YTB) , they have been exploring alternative housing models for creatives – thinking about ownership structures that make affordability and long-term stability possible for precarious workers.
In Session 3, Reza will speak to how his work examines the infrastructural, architectural, social, and communal aspects of living together – and asks how architects, designers, and artists can respond to them spatially.
If you are a creative navigating housing issues and want to learn how to get in the market, this conversation is for you.

Attn: faculty, TAs, professors, students - please be mindful of Iranian students’ mental well-being and their capacity at the moment. This isn’t to single out or ignore other struggles in the world that are impacting other regions, but I want to highlight it since there is a communication blackout and many students can’t communicate to folks back home or have been informed of losing friends to the regime’s retaliation.
Many are grieving, and in limbo

It’s very difficult to continue as if things are normal and I hope that all faculty can be understanding and act accordingly. Also, check in on your Iranian friends and classmates to see how they’re doing and offer support.
