Big news for the theatre and film industries 🎭📽️🎬🎉 We’ve teamed up with our friends at the National Theatre, Arts Council England and WorkWild on a mission to radically reduce the sectors’ environmental impact 💚 Introducing @restage_org our innovative new project with a simple but ambitious goal: each time a theatre show finishes its run or a film production wraps, we want to prevent their sets ending up in landfill, and instead going on to have a new life – literally by getting ‘restaged’. Right now across the screen and stage sectors, thousands of productions are all having to deal with the difficult task of trying to find somewhere to store their sets and materials in the chance they can be used again. And if this isn’t an option, they’re having to dispose of so many of these stunningly produced pieces as a lot of their parts aren’t currently recycled. This is where ReStage comes in. Right now the team is hard at work researching and piloting new ways to extend the lives of these sets, to create a zero-waste approach at all stages of production – from set design to construction 🔨🪚🧰🪜🧑‍💻 Joining forces with major theatres, studios and venues they’re also trialling new ways to recycle materials and transform waste into a valuable resource, which will move us closer to a circular economy for stage and screen ♻️ ReStage is also looking to establish a permanent base in London so this work can continue long term. The creative industries are a powerhouse for London – generating £64 billion annually and employing one in five Londoners.  Our theatre and film industries are vital components, generating thousands of jobs and attracting visitors in their millions ✨✨ ReStage is a really important step forward for our stage and screen industries, which will support these sectors in becoming more sustainable ❤️🖤🩷 Special thanks to our friends at ReCollective, ITV Studios, ReLondon, Theatre Green Book, Albert Bafta, Arup and the rest of the ReStage network who are collaborating with us on this circular economy journey too 🤝 Want to join us? What if reuse became standard practice across stage and screen? This session brings together research, real-world pilots, and production tools that are already reshaping how we think about materials, waste, and sustainability in the creative industries. Sara Turnbull shares key insights from ReStage’s work - from the National Theatre pilot to reuse hubs across the UK - alongside a preview of the calls to action from their forthcoming report. Alongside this, Ella Nevill (AssetFlow, part of the CAMA Group) demonstrates how advanced asset tracking can help productions identify, catalogue, and reuse materials more effectively. This is not just a talk - it’s an open conversation, inviting the industry to help shape what a zero-waste future looks like. At City Hall our colleagues in the @mayorofldn ’s Licensing team are working on a new pilot to support London’s nightlife venues, create jobs, and boost our economy 🌆 🌙 Our incredible night-time economy contributes over £139 billion to the capital. However, hospitality and nightlife industries have faced a huge number of challenges in recent years, including outdated licensing rules. 🎶 Places like pubs, restaurants, clubs, music venues and museums must apply for licences to sell alcohol, play music or serve food at night. Licences also set the times when they must close. Licensing matters for London’s nightlife, but the current system is unfortunately not fit for purpose. For this reason @sadiq and @justinesimons are working to create a licensing system that works for businesses, boroughs and Londoners. If you care about: ⭐Local late-night venues ⭐ Night workers ⭐London culture Then you care about licensing! And we want to hear what you think 🙌 Have your say on changes to licensing via the link in the bio 👆 We want a system that is clear and consistent for the whole capital - to boost the economy by helping more venues stay open for longer. Working together we can make sure our nightlife thrives 🤝 #LetsDoLondon #spaceforculture #londonmademe #mayoroflondon #londonnightlife

The @mayorofldn and The National Lottery Community Fund have invested £1.8 million to create a new network of Community Spaces that will bring Londoners together, help them access services and support them to build connections in their local communities. With this new funding, Community Spaces can roll out ‘Loved and Wanted Here’ events that bring free activities, practical support, and essential services to more communities, ensuring everyone can join in city life. This will build on the incredible work of charities, faith groups, community and civil society organisations who work every day to support Londoners and strengthen our neighbourhoods and the social fabric of our city. Bringing communities together in real life is crucial to building unity and cohesion, especially in an age where social media is increasingly being used as a weapon to spread division and hate. This new network of Community Spaces celebrates London’s diversity and is paving the way to a fairer, more inclusive city where everyone is Loved and Wanted. 2025 highlights continued - ReStage at the House of Commons 🏙️🤝🎉👀💚⬇️ This year’s Circular Economy Week was rounded off with a trip to Parliament with @metecoban92 , London Deputy Mayor for Environment and Energy, as @relondon_uk @relondon_circularchamps led an event in the House of Commons with the All-Party Parliamentary Group on the Environment ♻️ The event showcased to MPs the power of reuse, repair and recycling in kickstarting local economies. As the government develops the UK’s first Circular Economy Strategy, we joined inspiring businesses and community organisations building London’s circular economy from the ground up — highlighting local action and innovation that’s helping high streets thrive, fostering local pride and delivering resilient growth 🤝 This was big moment for ReStage, as we met MPs from across the political spectrum and shared how we’re harnessing the power of circular economy to make zero waste for theatre and screen a reality 🎬🎭 It was also inspiring to hear from Mete Coban MBE and MPs about how we can shift towards an economy built on repair and remanufacturing to support inclusive growth across the UK 🇬🇧 A inspiring week meeting like-minded groups all striving for the same goal — we’re excited to see what we can all achieve together in the year in 2026 💚 Want to join us? As 2025 draws to a close, we’ve been taking a moment to reflect on what has been an exciting year for ReStage 🖤🩷❤️ Since coming together with the @mayorofldn @nationaltheatre @aceagrams and @workwildltd on our shared mission to radically reduce the environmental impact of the film and theatre industries, we’ve been hard at work researching and piloting ways to turn that goal into reality 🎬🎭♻️ The goal? A practical but ambitious one: every time a theatre show finishes its run or a film production wraps, we want to prevent sets from ending up in landfill. Instead, they can go on to have a new life — by being ‘restaged’ ✅ A huge thank you to everyone who has supported and championed us so far. Whether you’ve reached out to learn more or collaborated with us directly, you’re helping move the stage and screen sectors closer to a circular economy 🙏 Looking back, one of our standout moments this year has to be #CircularEconomyWeek, hosted by @relondon_uk @relondon_circularchamps 🎉 During the week-long programme of events and activities, we met and exchanged ideas with so many inspirational zero-waste innovators, all committed to building a low-carbon, waste-busting economy for London. ReStage also took centre stage as we premiered our new short film — if you haven’t seen it yet, check out our pinned post 👀 Howard Dawber OBE, London Deputy Mayor for Business and Growth, was also in attendance, awarding @relondon_uk @relondon_circularchamps ‘s latest round of High Streets Beyond Waste grant winners👏🏆 The High Streets Beyond Waste programme supports high street businesses to trial reuse, repair, renting, sharing and recycling business models — helping them reduce waste, cut costs, create revenue and strengthen customer relationships 🤝 The week rounded off with a trip to parliament with @metecoban92 and @relondon_uk @relondon_circularchamps no less! More on this in the next post 👀 📸 @mariawphoto @relondon_uk @relondon_circularchamps
