This Thursday: Pavlos Kountouriotis and Mariella Greil — On the boundaries between the algorithm and human expression > In the Making nr. 14 The first session of 2026 will focus on the work of artist and KABK deputy chair Pavlos Kountouriotis (photo 1) , in which he will present his performance-as-research work that spirals into absurdity: Two Bobs and a Steve. In this work, he will explore resonance within the inanimate, probing the boundaries between the algorithm and human expression. Artist Mariella Greil (photo 2 by Victor Laschke) will respond to Pavlos presentation by explaining her perspective of Embodied Research as a Cosmopoietic Œkology. She will elaborate on the interconnections between choreography and materiality, ethics and œcology. A particular emphasis will be drawn onto processes of emergence, relation, and transformation that move beyond the static or representational and instead linger in the terrain of becoming. After the two presentations, a panel discussion will unfold, including media artist Lindsey Housden (KABK) and research lector Paul Craenen (KC) and a Q&A with the audience. ‘In the Making’ is a public program and a collaboration between the Academy of Creative and Performing Arts (ACPA) at Leiden University and Art Institute West Den Haag. - We hope to see you there. It’s wonderful to celebrate research outcomes in KABK Library 🙌 Thank you Lucy Bink, Nadia Abadjieva and Braidon Hobzek for your dedicated and inspired talks about thesis research. And thank you Alice Twemlow and the Deep Futures Research Group for telling us about the ‘messays’ and for reading from the book. And Alice, thank you for the connections you have made at KABK over the past few years. Between teachers and staff from different departments and disciplines, between many topics, between a variety of methods, and between diverse perspectives. Very valuable! And last but not least thanks to Roosmarijn Hompe for the smooth and flexible collaboration. #jointresearchday2025 #bridgingthethesis #kabklibrary @researchplatform.art

Join us for 𝐵𝓇𝒾𝒹𝑔𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝓉𝒽𝑒 𝒯𝒽𝑒𝓈𝒾𝓈, a conversation between alumni @lucy_bink (BA Photography) and Nadia Abadjieva (BA I/M/D), moderated by fourth-year I/M/D student Braidon Hobzek @princebray_ . Lucy Bink’s thesis Performing Hysteria explores how women diagnosed with hysteria have been portrayed and how these images continue to shape perceptions of femininity today. Reframing hysteria as a patriarchal construct, she examines its impact through visual language, medical narratives, and cultural framing. Nadia Abadjieva creates work that blends fiction and autobiography, forming a layered collection of stories about the people, objects, and experiences that shape her identity. Her practice reflects on how relationships and everyday choices construct who we are, offering a poetic exploration of memory, presence, and selfhood. The @kabklibrary will also showcase a selection of 2025 graduate theses. 🎪 Joint Research Day 2025 📆 13 November ⏱️ 16:00 – 18:00 📍 KABK Library at @royalacademyofart.thehague Info and registration via #linkinbio or researchplatform.art 📷 (1) Bridging the Thesis at JRD24 (photo credit: Alex Schröder), (2) Lucy Bink, (3) Nadia Abadjieva, (4) JRD25 identity by Angel San Juan #jrd25 #kabk #alumnitalk #thesisresearch #photography #interactivemediadesign
