Join us on a journey through a landscape of satellites, elephants, and ancient folklore, exploring how we might "reconstruct" the human body to predict extreme weather. Think folklore, mountains, mangoes, and cyborgs. 🥭🤖

Can we turn our bodies into advanced technological sensors that can predict earthquakes, hurricanes and tsunamis?
Early Warning System invites you into a strange landscape consisting of satellites, sensors, elephants and sages. A landscape cohabited by cutting edge technology and ancient folklore. Where the human body is reconstructed as an advanced technological sensor forecasting extreme geological and weather events. Where distant pasts and futures are imagined through stories of mountains, mangoes, cyborgs and more. Caught in loops, shifting between dreamscapes, together we figure out what it means to be human in the near future.

Can we turn our bodies into sensors that can predict earthquakes, hurricanes and tsunamis?
Early Warning System invites you into a strange landscape consisting of satellites, sensors, elephants and sages. It's where technology meets folklore. Set in the context of climate change, the performance reconstructs the human body as a sensor forecasting extreme geological and weather events. This is juxtaposed with an old folk tale, where an elephant's dance created an earthquake. The show is a journey, where we dive into emerging technology, and contrasting philosophies, challenging what we know and how we think. It is the discomfort before an epiphany. The ideas are explored in a dream-like landscape that leaves you wondering, "how did I get here?" And eventually becomes a beckoning to the audience to tune into the dance of the elephant and become the Early Warning System.

Join us for the first gathering in ATD Research Month 2026 on January 12, 13.00-17.30 in IDlab where there will be a sharing of the ongoing research Staging the Storm led by ATD artist-in-residence, Agat Sharma @athisownpace combined with talks and discussions with collaborators. The sharing is a first attempt at staging a cyclonic super storm called Amphan which caused widespread damage in India and Bangladesh in 2020. The sharing is structured in the form of five songs (prayers) about the histories of this storm. Through the staging we are trying to find ways of thinking about/with the storm in a world which is being affected constantly by extreme weather events like floods, fires, draughts and storms.
All welcome.

Amazing workshop by @athisownpace and @sipansezgin from The Absent Academy @w139amsterdam today. As students we were invited to practice drawing the face of the disappeared together - accompanied by deeply affective storytelling - leaving lasting after-images of love, grief and violence - emerging from ongoing research into enforced disappearances in Kashmir.
