YES!!! 3D Printing #inverted really does work!

It took 46hr and 45min to build and commission eight more Prusa CoreOne+ 3D printers to the farm.
Was it worth it from a time value of money standpoint as opposed to buying assembled? ABSOLUTELY NOT.
Was it worth it from a feeding my soul standpoint 10000%.
For context: building each of these independently can be anywhere from a 8-12hr ordeal. Setting up a parallel assembly process scratched a bunch of little organizational and procedural itches for me. I chipped away at it in the evenings for a few hours a night over the course of 2 weeks. I find decompressing at the end of the day by working with my hands to be very rewarding. Yes, I would have preferred that it didn't take over my kitchen table for that long but my kids have long grown accustomed to the fact that such is life when you're at dad's house.π
All said and done these represent the last of the upgrade kits @josefprusa sent me almost 3 years ago now to upgrade my last print farm from MK3 machines to MK4. Two new iterations of Prusa machine have since released so I had to sort through all the MK4 kits and get the new parts required to get them to the modern CoreOnes but Im glad I did. Massive leap forward in capabilities from the original farm. It was a ton of work but Im happy to have them all cranking out parts now at a speed and quality I could have only dreamed of a few years ago.
Would I choose these machines if I was starting it all over from scratch right now? Not sure. There's a lot of new players in the market now. I think it comes down to the type of work you're doing and the constraints formed around that. Right tool for the right job and all. I do love that there has always been an upgrade path and the machines are so easy to work on. I do wish the build volume was slightly bigger for a lot of the parts that seem to exist in the 1ft^3 space. The good news is my new farm design is modular by racking now so I do plan to build out a rack of larger format machines to enhance my capabilities when the job calls for it. I think this sliding shelf setup (yes the racks are all on wheels and nest like library archives) lends itself incredibly well to automation too. π

Chris McCormick, founder of @hatchx_com and I had an awesome chat about the toughest variable in any business, the HUMANS.
We cover a lot of ground but 90s highlights:
-Substance abuse
-Employees stealing
-When to give grace
-Would you FIRE your mom?
How would you deal with this stuff?
Not sure what these chats will become just yet but I know I LOVE it. Conversations with founders and creators energizes me immensely. There's insightful learnings and storytelling all around us.
Capturing it feels important.
Needs a bit more distillation still. I want to think more on how this body of work can sustainably fit with everything else on my plate.π€
Building 8 more CoreOne+ Printers today. Theres a lot of unboxing, sorting, and prep work involved doing them all in parallel but there's something oddly satisfying about it too. Finally got the workflow on lock and ready to go. Pays massive time saving dividends this way over building them all one at a time, plus Ive got all my spare parts already organized should I need em down the road.
A few Haribo and espresso and we're off to the races! ποΈπ¨
